    So my work mates and I have been discussing our weekly shopping bills during lockdown/working from home as we are at the minute.

    They were astounded when I said my costs about £15-20 a week.

    Theirs, even the singletons are at least double that.

    How much do you spend on yours?

    Are you Jamie Oliver, or perhaps Jesus? 5 loaves & 2 small fish 'n all that.

    Cooking largely veggie food I can just about live on £4 a day & be healthy, so say £30.

    Anywhere between £60 to £120.

    Sometimes bits and pieces over the main shop more.

    Family of five though.

    Daughters back fom uni and a teenage son eating me out of house and home! I'm not even looking at the credit card bill!!

    Maybe a bottle of wine or some nice gin. We’re not big drinkers though

    We started eating a lot of fresh food about 6 months ago. We eat ‘proper’ food near enough every day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, premium ingredients cost a lot. We sometimes order food in for lunch and/or breakfast, but never for dinner. I cook every day.

    I love cooking, so it’s not a chore, but it’s not cheap. We’ve both lost weight though since we made the switch and we both feel a lot better, so it’s worth it.

    I love food. They say people either eat to live or live to eat. I definitely live to eat. I can’t do with bland food or cheap meat.

    I wish.

    I think it’s cos I shop around, be it market, Iceland, Lidl Online etc and avoid paying more than I need to for something.

    I hardly eat any processed ***** barring the emergency chicken dippers and pizza in the freezer.

    I get through a **** load of rice, porridge and couscous though. And milk

    What does your average meal look like? I’ve found it’s the unexpected ingredients for things like sauces and seasonings that get the expenses up. The protein is expensive, but the little things add up. Things like fresh herbs, bone broths, wines etc.

    Three plus a dog. I honestly think it was cheaper when there was five of us (adjusting for inflation). Maybe we just tried harder to budget when all the kids were at home.
