Gordons narrowed it down to 5 Simon Davey, Simon Davey, Simon Davey, Simon Davey, or Simon Davey Hes even let him bring an assistant in, whats that tell ya:-| :-|
RE: my short list Not producing a shortlist for a fortnight, Mr Shephards hoping Davey dunt blow it he can give him the job and save a wage Been here before, (its how Danny Wilson, John Hendrie and Andy Ricthie got the job) Hope im wrong
RE: my short list You've just provided two examples where appointing a manager internally worked perfectly...Wilson and Ritchie. If Gord is happy with how Davey is running things behind the scenes and the results are good, Davey will get the job and few can argue with it. I would be looking for a more experienced man personally but I doubt Shep is basing his choice strictly on saving the pennies. If Shep's comments are to be believed, Ritchie was axed for doing precisely that.
RE: Hindsight being 20/20 The point being that its a lottery. Might work, might not but it the cheapest option. At this point in oakwell history I think we could do with a proven manager, (DOWIE). But well be rolling the dice again
My Shortlist Ronnie Corbett Mini Me Nik Nak The bloke off Fantasy Island An Ooompa Lumpa The Munchkins
RE: Hindsight being 20/20 Any manager selection is a lottery to a certain extent. Spackers came with a decent reputation and experience and we all know what happened there. Similarly, Dowie could be described as 'proven' but he had a mare at Charlton. I agree that a proven manager would be preferable to someone who would starting from scratch. However, there aren't many about and fewer that would come to a struggling side. If Davey has commanded the respect of the players and is getting the results he will have proven himself for me. The next 2/3 games will be the test as I suspect we would have beaten Southend and possibly Ipswich with Ritchie.
RE: My Shortlist Also, do you think Shephard knew where to find Wallwork, McCann and the rest. Davey Told him. Its a done deal
not so............ according to the man himself-in his first? Radio Sheff interview he clearly stated that it was done by MW and GS-he hadn't the time
RE: not so............ Fair enough, but im strayin off the point. We give untried managers a start, always have done. Not necessarily a bad thing
RE: Hindsight being 20/20 We wouldnt have beat ipswich, because Kyel reid wouldnt have crossed the ball and Grant McCann wouldnt have scored. Thats why he got the chop.
agreed it's one of the few jobs where you can be a complete flop and yet still have people clamouring to appoint you to the next job!!
