Slightly OT..I love Daily Mash's label - 'Whatever' - on the annoying cookies button we all tend to click and usually labelled 'Accept' rather than the tedious 'Modify' button to process every time you visit a website... I am sure 99% of people click Accept rather than modifying the Cookies when surfing. (I just have my browsers set to delete cookies on exit)
Absolutely no idea why but I thought of you when I saw this https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/poli...road-but-still-supports-brexit-20190503185263
Never doubted there will be short to medium term problems and accepted the anticipated drop in the FX rate (30%) However my decision was NOT based on what the relationship is between the UK and EU now but where I believe the EU is headed. Assumptions that the status quo exists if we remain are IMO false. Anyway ....The Daily Mash incidentally got most of the following wrong ... Ignore really ******* obvious problems....... (Nope) Did not make my decision lightly... only after much soul searching. "Everything from your pension to health care will be affected by a no-deal Brexit". NOPE Ex pats can pay NI in Italy and once permanent resident status is acquired after 5 years you get same status as Italian citizens and residents regarding access to the Italian Health Service which incidentally is every bit as good as the UK and in many situations better. Pensions being tax resident in Italy is divided between Public pension (taxed in UK) and Private Pensions and State Pension (when I get it) taxed in Italy. Incidentally taxation has nothing to do with EU as all countries have different dual taxation treaties. Brexit does not impact on those. Assume ‘they’ will sort everything out (NOPE)Domestic Governments i.e. ITALY in my case -still in EU and bound by EU (and international law) are the biggest influence on expat pensioners. Already stated nothing will change Fail to see the irony of complaining about immigration (Nope) No irony in differentiating between legal migrants e.g. "perfectly nice German, Greek or Swedish pensioners retired to the UK " and thousands of illegal migrants arriving weekly needing financial support , subsistence and housing, most with no documentation . Learn to love paperwork This is fair comment. EXCEPT!... Coming to Italy has always involved masses of paperwork so not really any change. Given recent communications with HMRC it appears the UK is not far behind with increasing levels of bureaucracy these days. Regarding HGV stuff... Used to tour Europe in a bands in the 80s and the carnets and paperwork (pre IT and EU) crossing every border was tedious but manageable most prep was done pre travel.
