with England set to face San Marino and the Celtic striker firing at his best, the question i will ask.
Should he be picked in the squad tomorrow?

Absolutely not. If he is in the top 4 or 5 strikers we can choose then we really are in a sorry state.

Hes not in the top 5 maybe but would he fit in to the TEAM that could be the best possible.

England shouldn't be about picking the best 11 players, its surely about picking the best TEAM.

Him and Rooney up front maybe would work. Rooneys playing very well coming deep and getting goals for RVP and others at MAnchester United. Hooper likes to get in behind the defence and could get on to the passes and hes a decent finisher when one on one.

I agree they don't have to be the very best players available, but come on, Hooper is nowhere near international level. IMO obviously.

    Absolutely not

He was a decent Champ / League 1 striker and he now plays in the SPL which is somewhere between the two. Hence he is still doing well. AT THAT LEVEL ! ! Let's face it, Rory Fallon was a box Office signing in that league last year 10 years after he was past his Championship sell-by date.

Serious issues if we call him up.

Played well in champ league. Good goal in Russia. Watched 60/65 minutes and hes decent. Could have had another when the defender pulled at him and got sent off.

No, they should pick Bothroyd again..... Haha.

Seriously though .... I'd say the Scottish league is (Celtic apart) a poorer level than the Championship. So any Celtic striker should be getting goals.
Would you pose the same question about Craig Davies? I doubt it.

Defoe, Crouch are two I'd pick straight away before hooper. In fact I'd pick Billy Sharp ahead of Hooper, and I can't stand the fella.

Until he's proved himself at a higher level he shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad, and I'm a fan of him!

So you reckon a "bottom half ..." striker such as Bothroyd could score in the Champions League away to Moscow? Bollo.cks

Eh? Champions League is supposed to be the "premier" Club competition - where do you suggest he needs to prove himself?

Thing is if he had gone to Southampton in the summer he would have been called up - but hey we have Wellbeck, Sturridge and not forgetting the excellent creative midfielder Cleverley so the future of our country is in safe hands!!
