Yes. I would treat the comments from those who say there is less choice of software and hardware with caution. Its theoretically true that there is less software for the Mac, but all you need is probably available for a Mac. If you need a specific Windows program then the new Macs come with Boot Camp which lets you run a version of windows. In most cases I've found a Mac version that is better or equivalent to the Windows version. I bought a Mac a last year and its one of the best computing decisions I've ever made. The best operating system in the world. Fewer or no crashes and as yet no viruses. If you need hardware then most of the big players like Canon, Epson and HP all supply a Mac driver. I've not had any problems with any of the following with regard connecting to my Mac : Printer, Router, Scanner (both HP and Canon), Digicam (Panasonic), Digital camera (Ricoh and Canon), Card Reader. It your choice, but I would not let software or hardware be a concern unless there is one major bit of software you use all the time that doesn't have a Mac version. I've sourced versions of MS Office and most Adobe products I use from eBay quite cheaply. Hope this helps.
Classic line! "Its theoretically true that there is less software for the Mac" - how can it be true in theory but not in reality?
Sometimes I wonder how you get by without someone coming up to you to kick the ***** out of you!.

Do you have a "specific" requirement ? Look in any Graphics/Publishing studio and the creative work is done on Macs. The administration on PC s . What are you, creative or an administrator
Less and Less So This was the one main area Macs used to be able to claim superiority over the PC but in recent years there's no real difference betweem the graphic design capabilities of the PC. More and more design houses are moving over to PCs.

RE: Less and Less So Photoshop CS2.Mac Vue Infinite 5 Mac Final cut studio Mac Carrara Pro Mac Freeway 4 Mac Shake 4 Mac Icon builder 8 Mac Maya7 Mac Fontographer 4 Mac Cinema 4D Mac Portfolio 8 Mac Studio 8 Mac Aperture Mac Power Mac g5 Quad 5 star rating. Nothing in the PC world to touch it but it does cost over £2000 Ouch.... I use a PC and wish I had a Mac..........
RE: Classic line! What I was trying to say (in a few words) was that although there are thousands of PC apps out there, after all the rubbish has been sifted out you are left with roughly equal numbers of apps for both platforms. As Leeds Tyke wanted to know whether buying a Mac was a good idea and someone had posted a reason why it wasn't I thought I'd add my two penneth to put my view across. I would hope that those who have posted 'fors' and 'against' in this debate have had the experience of owning and using both platforms. (I realise your post was aimed solely at the use of my English in my post). It wouldn't be doing Leeds Tyke any favours posting an opinion on something one had no knowledge or experience of when the result is going to cost this chap a fair bit of dosh.
Maybe he means pirated software? Theoretically, there may well be pirated software for the mac. However, in reality, it is hard to find. What does "sourced from ebay quite cheaply" mean?
RE: Maybe he means pirated software? I didn't mean pirated software. The theoretical bit was aimed at all the dross available for a PC which boosts the application count for that platform. If you weed out the cack then there isn't much to choose between them. Read into what you want re the eBay bit. I won't advocate piracy, but some people do copy software and this applies to every platform. All I'm saying is that Mac apps are widely available if you look around. I'll leave it to individuals to decide whether they want to pursue that line or not.
RE: Maybe he means pirated software? Hope I didn't ruffled your feathers. That wasn't my intention - only a light hearted comment following up the one by EastStander. I agree, BTW. Quite a lot of Windows software is rubbish (plenty of genuinly good freebies available on the web though). Is the MAC stuff (on the whole) of a better standard? Stephen
RE: Maybe he means pirated software? Hi, No offence taken dude. I've found that Mac software on the whole is better. It seems to me better thought out and the way it fits in with OS X is really nice. I've used a PC now since 1990 and a Mac since 2005 and I can't say I'd ever go back to a PC for home use. I have to use a PC for work and its like a breath of fresh air coming home to the Mac. Everyone looks for something different in a computer and its a very personal thing. All down to individual choice.
