The first time in about 3 years I've been able to afford a season ticket, thing is it's the first time ever I've been in two minds whether I do actually want one or not. I miss going to the matches every week, but it just doesn't feel like Barnsley Football Club anymore. Well, not at the moment anyway. I keep telling myself that this rut won't last forever and that we've been in worse positions, but it feels like the club is crumbling from the inside. The negativity from the manager, the frighteningly incompetant board, the revolving door of mercenary players and the disillusioned supporters fast disappearing. Or is it just me being a drama queen..?
Anyone who can afford to renew should renew. If people continue to stay away the club will decline faster and it will be even harder to compete for players.
If u can afford it, then yes. We need all the support we can get. I say that in spite of serious reservations. I have renewed, but have never had so many doubts in my life. If the club could muster up a bit of enthusiasm for itself, it would help.
I haven't renewed precisely for all the reasons already mentioned. I was doubtfull last year simply because going to Oakwell became a chore; however at least there wasn't the "punching above our weight", "privileged to still be in this division" boll0cks that is now being spouted in everything coming out of Barnsley F.C. Despite Keith Hill having a decentish start, I have no faith whatsoever that he has the ability to turn things round irrespective of resources. During the shambolic second half of the season he really had no idea how to get out of the mess we'd got into. As for the dilusional players, many of them were still spouting on about how good the team is and "that we'll be pushing for a top 10 spot" well after it was obvious to everyone that we were only going one way - towards the bottom. I'm really in two minds whether to renew or not - the only possitive is the craick in the pub before the match, and this rapidly diminishes once we take our seats in the Ponty (or look at the back pages of The Chron on a Friday). I really haven't been this disillusioned in a long time (if indeed ever). What we need is a "Churchillian" call to arms, not the "Italian white flag" rhetoric currently coming out of Oakwell. U-T-R.
