AFC Wimbledon and the fans want them to drop it from their name and simply be known as Milton Keynes Football Club.
Yes. They don't need it and have already handed back the trophies etc. How about MK Sim city, MK new town, MK town wants to be a city, MK "concrete" cows, Bucks County, communtersville FC, MK militia, MK boom town, MK kickers, MK Borough Or.. Just Milton Keynes FC?!
Was reading that they have got something like multi-millions from asda and ikea. Wonder if a) this is true and b) if it came from selling land, who gave them it (council?) and how have they made such a big and quick profit on it?
The site where their ground is located is a retail park with Asda and Ikea on it (I used to live 10 miles away from there) so this would make sense. Not sure who owned the land originally but I think the council still have some sort of stake in the stadium (I always thought it was council owned).
Not true, but I can understand how you've heard this rumour. A small part of Superman 3 was filmed at the building which is now the Head Office for Argos and Homebase (where I used to work). The scene in question was the one where Richard Pryor skies down a glass roof (and ends up landing on the street below). The glass roof is part of the top floor canteen, and we got told it when we got the initial building tour. Naturally, we all thought we were being bull-shitted so we looked it up and established it was a true story.
I think they tried this a few years ago too, and Franchise FC argued that the Dons bit was now a reference to the Open University, which is in the town.
Sorry mate but have to disagree, I've been to Milton Keynes and I've seen Superman 4 - it's quite clearly the train station in the background of a scene where they are allegedly at the United Nations. Almost all of the film was apparently shot in England. I always found it weird because all the others were made in the US/Canada, yet most of the cast is the same and it's set in America - sure it would have been cheaper to use the studios they have over there?
