Some of the stuff being hurled at him is starting to go a bit too far now, for me. Just to be clear, I'm with everyone else in that I think he's woefully unequipped to take us forward, and I think he should be relieved of his duties as soon as the final whistle blows on May 7th. However, is he really the problem? I don't think he's trying to be $hit. I'm sure he's trying his b0llock$ off every day of the week. I also suspect he realises he doesn't have what it takes. Should we really be hammering him for that? Personally, when I look at him in the dugout I think he already looks broken. If anything, I feel for him. For me, the real problems are very clearly above him. He's an ambitious coach. He will have genuinely fancied his chances when the gig came along. I don't think for one second he 'saw us coming' when we approached him. For me, the owners' gross negligence is why we're in the $hit we're in. They fkd up with Schopp. Fair do's. It happens. They did OK with Stendel, Struber and Val, so I guess they backed themselves. But to repeat the same mistake immediately after Schopp, is just unacceptable. Compounded with that, the recruitment, off the pitch issues and a puppet CEO, for me means Poya is kind of a victim in all this. He should have never been offered the job. Anyway, bottom line is I'm really not liking some of the vitriol I'm seeing towards him, and I think people should just ease off on him a bit. He's not good enough and has to go. But ultimately I think he's a product of our mess, not the cause of it. Reyt, am off to hammer this Thai green curry and put some records on...
He's a puppet, he plays the team he's told to play by those above him. People giving him all the abuse seem to be forgetting that. Is there any point in having a head coach when Conway is picking the team?! No, lard arse himself may as well be in the dugout.
Never an excuse for personal abuse, agreed. And we won't need telling he's not doing very well in getting positive results on the pitch. It's difficult to know how he is doing against the brief he's been given without knowing the brief he's been given. I'm usually one for giving everyone time but I'm not seeing much progress. In fairness, I would expect any professional footballer in a squad to be able to do the basics pretty well, to be fit enough to last 90+ minutes, and to bust a gut for the team. I think there is a perfect storm of adverse circumstances that are combining to ruin this season. It's not just Poya but optically, as many have noted, he seems devoid of passion for what he is trying to achieve - and, if true, that is beyond dissappointing.
He shouldn’t have ever been put in. Was obvious to anyone with half a brain it wasn’t going to work out. He got sacked in his last role and had hardly pulled up any trees then either. Just another terrible decision from our ownership. Which have got more wrong than right. So yeah I agree not Poyas fault but still I can’t defend someone who is clearly failing.
Maybe he was lied to at interview stage. Perhaps he was told he would be provided with the players but then he would have full control over training, team structure and team selection. What if those above him are telling him who to select and style of play etc to try and 'market' these players. He could be really pissed off at the moment but is he going to walk away and forgo a payout? Nah is he ****.
I agree. It's like Mercedes slashing Lewis Hamilton's tyres and switching his engine for a Corsa's and then having a go at him for not being remotely competitive.
I’m not saying he’s doing a good job with us, but he’s responsible for the only major trophy that IFK Gothenburg have won in the last seven years. Didn’t he also get them in to the Europa League for the first time in a couple of seasons? We had people clamouring for Big Mick, Warnock and Alex Neil who have all been sacked multiple times in their career.
I don’t agree with personal insults as people should be able to do their job without being subject to abuse. However, in a results business if you aren’t winning any games no matter what the circumstances then you are not fulfilling your role. If I don’t do my job properly I am in trouble/ would be at risk of being sacked and I don’t earn anything like football managers.
Arsenal sacked Wenger, Chelsea sacked Jose, etc. One of the guarantees as a football manager is that you’re almost certain to get sacked at some point. But I was referencing the points you made rather than jumping to something else.
So he got sacked for under performing against expectations? He’s never met an expectation here. Also begs the question why another Swedish team didn’t go for him then. Our board made two horrific managerial choices this season regardless of how we try to put a positive spin on his appointment.
I don’t disagree that much, and said in my original reply I wasn’t saying he was doing a good job here. But trying to discredit some of his previous achievements wasn’t needed in my opinion. He’s highly respected - regardless of how we see him right now.
As much as I think he's making a **** up of it. I can't for once decide if he should go or not. Clearly when you have the board interfering with tactics, formations and team selection, I think it's pointless.
Would be interesting to compare the levels of 'passion' and touchline istruction Poya demonstrated at IFK and what he does with us. He may just be a technical manager who focuses on analysing the game rather than living it. However, if that's the case, in 11/12 games I would have expected that analysis to have paid off in demonstrably improving tactics and team selections. I'm still baffled by both given the situation we're in.
