It was suggested earlier that the STFU button may not help with recent bickering on the forum and that a few members dont like it. I added the STFU button a while ago as it was very popular on a couple of forums I used and was requested to add it numerous times on a forum I own. The button when used correctly is a very good forum tool for generating activity and debate. Its only ever meant to be a light hearted way of grabbing a members attention and telling him you disagree while offering your opinion in a reply. unlike the "like" and "Dislike" buttons someone clicking the STFU button should usually reply. Eg a member makes a post and someone disagrees with him and reply's. the original poster doesn't log in for a couple of days and then either forgets about his post or cant be arsed searching for it. that thread is then burried. with the STFU button he gets a notification which links to the reply and the debate continues. I thought it would be good here as posts and threads get burried very quickly. it was never intended to offend or cause 2 members to arrange to meet in Oakwell carpark for a punch up. nor was intended for 1000 people to click the same member just for the sake of it. I used STFU abbreviation as it was just copied from else where, maybe its a bit too harsh. its just really saying disagree and notifying the poster that you have replied Despite what some may think if people vote to remove it I will happily do it. if the bottons not used in the correct way then its pretty pointless anyway. I have seen members reply by saying "why the hell are you telling me to STFU" etc. lol, as i have said its not there to offend it just a tool to generate activity, so feel free to vote, remove, keep or rename and we will go with the majority
Personally I'd leave it as it's less offensive/provocative to hit the STFU button and let someone know what you think than it is to actually type a reply telling them to STFU which is more likely to cause arguments
As a mobile skin user I couldn't care less as I have no button and haven't a clue if I've received any. I am interested to know how many times this OP has been STFU'd, just for cheap giggles really.
Couldn't care less. Never use it, and don't pay any attention to when others do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can you not see the hypocracy and the lunacy of this button. You make us all stare at a statement for a minute and a half telling us we are not allowed to abuse other posters - ban people for calling each other names.. Then give us a button to tell people to shut the F up.... I'm struggling with how Admin can see how this is a tenable position. That is unless we get a vote on whether we can call each other names again.
to to be honest when the button was added most members on here we're getting along fine. Very recently some members have really over stepped the mark and it's gone beyond name calling and got quite personal and abusive.
I dont mind it, but what annoys me is when someone presses the STFU button against you but then doesn't reply to your post to explain why you should shut up. Its not a problem with the button as such, more the people who press it
Quite funny that I was banned for posting F@#$/$ T yet the site allows you to use the expeltive STFU without recourse Tis true.
I've used the STFU button in this thread. About ten times. Because I can. I'm with the 'against' crowd though. It's a ******* stupid button for stupid people. I've used it about 1,000 times probably.
