From todays Star 'Stabbed in the back' ... Shuker's parting shot FURIOUS Chris Shuker has left Barnsley, declaring: "The chairman has stabbed me in the back." The winger said he had decided two weeks ago to take up an offer to stay at Oakwell. He was out of contract at the end of the season and was offered a new deal. He added that he had four weeks to make up his mind only to find the offer withdrawn in three weeks. The club deny that was the case. Said Shuker: "The manager wanted me back, the lads as well, it seems the chairman is running the club, picking the players." Shuker stressed there had not been wrangle over wages. He was ready to sign for the same pay as last year. "Money wasn't the issue, I turned down an extra £500 from another club because I wanted to stay. "I liked it at Barnsley, played all the games until right at the end of the season." Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd replied: "I like the young man but we could not go along with not knowing what was going to happen. "I was told by his agent that he took a holiday to think about his future. He didn't come back to us in the time scale. Shuker has been a target for four other clubs and was set to announce today where he will be playing next year. http://www.sheffieldtoday.net/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=59&ArticleID=1607323
Simple fact is that the lad has held us to ransom for the last 2 close seasons he has played a game and lost!!
RE: From todays Star certainly not surprised or that it's unexpected. If it is true then I admire Shuker for his outspokeness. This might provide a platform for others to help identify the true nature of the problem down at the well.
RE: From todays Star "The manager wanted me back, the lads as well, it seems the chairman is running the club, picking the players." Now that comment does change my idea of remaining positive over the next week or so!!!!
