Tranmere have today beaten a number of clubs from League One and the Championship to sign winger Chris Shuker on a two-year contract, subject to a medical.

The 24-year old, who was born in Liverpool, joins from Barnsley where he has spent the last two years.

Chris began his career as a youngster with Manchester City, for whom he played in the Premiership.

He moved permanently to Barnsley in April 2004 and helped them gain a promotion to the Championship last season.

He has made 163 career appearances, scoring 22 goals.

Tranmere Manager Ronnie Moore said: "Chris is a great signing for the Club.

"We have worked very hard to bring him to the Club and we are glad we have been able to do it.

"He is an old fashioned style of winger who uses tricks and likes to beat people. He is a player you would pay to watch and we are delighted he will be at Prenton Park this season."

Chris will be the ninth signing in the last two weeks

    Championship my arse.
If he'd attracted Championship interest why would he drop to the division he helped secure promotion from?
Held out on us in the hope of an improved offer and it's blown up in his face.

Big loss?? nah. Use wages saved to bring in quality

    lets fecking hope so.

I liked shuker esp. first half of last season but a winger who cannot cross a ball is no use nor ornament.

He will be missed if we dont use the money to strengthen

I did like him and was fantastic 1st half of last season BUT he dried up and simply could not cross a ball.

Think he would struggle in championship just like the a fair few of our squad will.

I really hope this wasn't cutting off your nose to spite your face

but it certainly looks like it at the moment. Looks like no French U21 player either so not a great week.

    I dont think it was

I would hope we have a replacement on the cards though it may not be on the wing. Maybe Mcpartland or Hayes will fill the role..?????????

Shuker isn't up to Championship standard.

That said, he's better than the gaping hole that's appeared on one side of our midfield.

    Oh come on

He ran about a lot but the the accuracy of his crosses left a hell of a lot to be desired, his goalscoring was sporadic at best, and he was obviously in such demand that he's decided to join Tranmere in the league we've just left.

Taking a dive to get Chris Lumsden sent off

    and

dropping the Hudersfield mascot at the Galpharm!

    RE: Oh come on

goal scoring was sporadic, well if scoring 10 from the wing is sparodic in half a season then he would have been in the england squad if he had continued scoring like that for the rest of the season,

his crosses did drop of but even when they was getting into the danger area the so called strikers where unable to get on the end of them so that made the cross look bad aswell so he was in a no win situation

    Oh come on!!

Strikers can't do much if the cross is cleared easily by the first defender in it's path!
