he didn't want to stay he waited for a bigger team to come in for him and when it became obvious that no such team wanted him it was only then he tried for another contract. I actually think the club showed rare courage in denying him this, I wouldn't have liked him in the team if the only reason was we were the only championship team willing to have him. His performances at the back end of last year were poor which resulted in him being dropped for the play-offs, he's doing well for Tranmere but there's no telling how he would have performed in this year, I certainly don't thonk Chris Shuker would have vastly improved our league position at this time.
There would've been no requirement for mattis though had he still been here. I know which of the 2 i'd rather see in a reds shirt and it's not the one currently under contract at oakwell!
Aye, disco blows hot and cold too much! goes missing in far too many games for my liking, but when he's on he worries opposition defences.
RE: he didn't want to stay Shuker had played a similar waiting game the previous close season and had turned down a 2 year contract then, insisting on a 1 year deal taking him until after his 24th bithday thus making him a free agent this summer. So the club knew for a whole year he was going to look around to see what was on offer. If it was a supposedly courageous decision then why sign him the previous year when he insisted on a one year deal? 10 goals from midfield from someone who you say had a bad half season speaks volumes! What haul from a good season? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face! (titanic)
Stop going on about him! He had one decent half game last season , at home to Scnuthorpe.
He was dropped because he was bringing ZERO to the party. Our performances picked up when he finally got dropped.
He was deceptive in that becaue he had little legs people thought he was quick when he actually wasnt.
He also couldn't cross , couldnt beat a man!
How he got 10 goals I have no idea as it was usually like playing with 10 men whenever he was in the team.

Nothing to do with liking him, I just didnt rate him , and it looks like not many others in the football world did either.
Never understood the adulation he seemed to get from many fans!

Personally, i thought he was a tryer and contributed a lot to the side. Unfortunately there's not many tryers left in this current side that get a game regularly. Thinking about the kay's and togwell's etc. This muppet picking the team sticks below average players in the side AND THEN plays folk out of position! He's a bit of a numpty with a larger numpty employing him!
RE: Stop going on about him! As you've been told he always gives 100% and scored 10 goals from midfield. Good in anybody's books.
I keep going on about it because the chairman took it upon himself to get rid of him against the managers wishes. Then he sacked the manager for not signing players. Get the drift?

10? Is that better than Mattis 4 from last week or his 5 from this week then? Can't be, he was rubbish, loads on this board say so.

Shukers offerings last season were generally abysmal.
Also he has never played at this level , at least hardly any games if he has ,and no one from this level seems keen to give him a try.
Why do you reckon that is?

RE: Shuker has gone , Unfortunately it epotomises the whole situation. The club cannot move on while the team manager is not allowed to do his job without the full support of the board, everyone has to know their role in the scheme of things. This ain't happening and until it does we will plummet further and further down the leagues.
