sure he sounded happy we was losing, maybe its just me but does anyone know if he is a confirmed Sheffield united fan, or neutral, its not the same without the commentators saying we , think sacking our commentary lads set the tone for the season

I'm getting used to this new commentary already, but I got to say that it's nowhere as good as our own commentary team was. I think it was a huge mistake to get rid of them...

I honestly didn't even realise at first when Winnall scored for us tonight, I thought that it had been cleared when Oxley didn't sound all that enthusiastic about it. I know that he's probably not a Barnsley fan, but it would help if he even tried to sound a bit more passionate.

Yes I was the same when he got all excited because Addison hit his own bar but failed to confirm immediately that Winnall had scored from the rebound. Same happened with our winner on Saturday.

I suppose he just doesn't react right, in other words like a Barnsley fan would. I don't like being kept guessing for a couple of seconds. Poor that, but he's just a BBC employee doing a job. Nothing more.

That's a massive bug bear for me too! He takes forever to actually say the word 'goal' or make it clear. I didn't realise Winnall had scored for a while either and it's same the same with every goal. He might say words that imply that we've scored but it takes him a good 20-30 seconds to actually make it obvious. When we're away so we don't get the crowd noise it's really hard to be sure.

I think Oxley is a blunt. Giddings supports Halifax Town and Paul Walker is a blunt. Not sure about the others.

I don't see what the problem is. Yes it was probably better when our lads were doing the job themselves but I think Adam Oxley is a good commentator regardless of who he supports. Nobody actually knows to be fair.

It's a commentary service, the guy commentates.

At the weekend, the service dropped out for a minute and a half, at which point Adam Oxley apologised, it's the first time its dropped out all season. It works!!!!

And I could tell when a goal went in last night. I think people need to get over the fact that the club have tried to cut a few corners by outsourcing the service and either listen to it or don't. After all there were so many complaints about the quality of the old player, so the club has done something about it.

vote with your feet kids. cancel it. if every barnsley fan cancelled and sent a letter to patrick citing the dismissal of our lads, i imagine they would be forced to reconsider.

    Glad you mentioned that

I thought it was me that just missed him confirming it

I said on Saturday they fail to tell you what's happening

    Saturday was just a corner

Didn't think they would forget to conform we had scored

I never complained when the stream used to drop, it was only for about 5 seconds and it wasn't their fault. Now we have to face sometimes 23 'drops' in a match as it cuts to many other matches in a row - on purpose - during important events during our matches (such as corners etc.). I know that is only when it is on a certain station but it shouldn't happen at all when I am paying for uninterrupted commentary. Also, yesterday wasn't the only time he hasn't confirmed a goal for a good few seconds. I don't care less who he supports or whether he is excited or not but I'd like him to actually state the fact in a prompt manner.

I've got to say, much of why i'm disillusioned with my club at present is a compound effect of many things.

Paying for radio sheffield commentary, radio sheffield pre match interviews and post match radio sheffield interviews goes against the grain a great deal.

The commentary is poor. The commentary drops far more than it ever used to. We have breakages in commentary to do a brief synopsis for round the ground coverage. We're repeatedly told how the sheffields are doing. The lag seems longer than it was too (perhaps picking up from so many outages?)

The tone never fits the match.

Its an awful service and the value of player is now nil. There is virtually zero content that cant be gained elsewhere. (Do we have a media and comms department anymore??

To add to that the disgraceful manner our commentators received and the very shaky reasoning for it and its just another negative in a truly disastrous season.

Can I ask why people don't take up Marc's suggestion and cancel it en masse? I think if lots of people did that with an accompanying reason why then it could have an impact. I'm not being arsey here as its not a service I have ever used and I know it keeps a lot of people in touch but it's easy to moan without positive action and maybe better to be clear about your dislike of the replacement service.

Better to live on your feet than to die on your knees.

    Viva la revolution

What we have to pay for as Barnsley supporters Sheffield United supporters get for free. I only used to subscribe to listen to the away games because almost every time Sheffield Utd are away it's the FM game.

In the end It got so I felt I was supporting Sheffield Utd by subscribing so I kicked it into touch.

Once again I agree with all you say and I'm glad I cancelled.

It just shows how unfair the new setup is - I listened to the Radio Sheffield commentary for "free" while you paid to hear the same. A massive mistake by the club. I wonder just how much they actually saved?

I'd go back like a shot and wouldn't even want a fee (we were volunteers for many years and eventual pay amounted to expenses) and I'm sure Adam feels the same. Trouble is my off-air voice has been too loud for them since our dismissal and I doubt they could easily break their contract with RS in any case.
