Former Rangers and Champions League player. Should get the Hemsworth seal of approval. I think this is the type of player that everyone who understands our situation thought we'd be in for. Young, shown a lot of promise at a lower level, but still has everything to prove. It's the kind of player Wilson has always gone after, be they home grown or from abroad. The other couple of names we've been linked to are just the same, and I expect us to sign a few more similar players. We're not in a position where we can sign established players, already doing it in the league we're in, mid to late 20s at the pinnacle of their career. We can't afford it. We'll get younger players from teams further down the pyramid or from academies and maybe one or two older heads, to do for us what Hendrie, Wilkinson and to a lesser extent Shirtliff did for us in the past. It's the only way to go.
Good stuff. If he's a success, the club can sort out a longer contract with him during the season (provided both parties agree). If he isn't, then the club doesn't get lumbered for any great length of time. Gum121 proved right again.
He'll not be able to join another English club for free next season though, if we offer him a contract extension. He'll still be under 24, so another English team would have to pay us. Many people wrongly believe the player has to come through your academy for that rule to kick in, but that isn't the case. The year he's spent with us is counted as part of his development and as such we get paid.
happy enough with that his record seems to be as good as, if not better than Gregory who we missed out on.
I did think about that, but he'll turn 24 in April, while still under contract with us. Would he then be able to go for a free in the summer months after? Ideally we'll extend the contract early on if he proves to be a decent laiker.
He's 23 next April so that is not a concern. Edit -or maybe not. I've now read 2 different DOBs for him.
