If I was a parent of one of our academy players, I would be furious that "Red Rain" for suggesting that they are not decent players with his remark that you can't make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear". This is extremely disrespectful to the boys. What does that say for players of the other five clubs who are beneath us in the Academy league? He is clearly not content with just "bashing" them in the reports, he now thinks they are all just not good enough! What gives him the right to be "judge and jury" on these kids? For someone who claims to be in favour of the Academy, he has a funny way of showing it! Secondly how does he feel that the club are in danger of ruining RNL? What have they done to him? Or are we looking to blame Mr Branson for something else? Other than the 5 minutes he played for the 1st team against Doncaster, I have only seen him play once - in the Youth cup game against Walsall, and he looked okay. But he's only fifteen for god's sake! Why don't we all just leave him alone to grow up and develop without any additional pressure. And hopefully our club will see the benefits in a few years time.
If you won't comment on the "Silk Purse" issue, then at least explain your thoughts on why the club is in danger ruining RNL. You can't make a comment like that without backing it up with some rational reasoning.
Academy poster equation IF post count < 10 AND attitude = "Grumpy" then poster = fraud More references to Mr Branson? If you are going to carry on trying to discredit Red Rain then at least change your f.cuking posting style so you actually look like a different user rather than the same one with a chip on his shoulder. If the Academy spent as much time sourcing decent kids from the Barnsley area as you do creating propaganda then we may have a youth team actually capable of winning something other than the Nepotism Youth Cup.
The problem with this board is that statements are taken out of context. Generalised statements are made specific. Insults are taken where none are intended. I would love to have a reasoned debate about the academy because it is something that is close to my heart, and my post from which you have extracted part of the last two lines was an attempt to carry on what had in the main been a reasoned debate. However, since you refuse to accept my credentials as a caring supporter of the academy, I see no further point in continuing the debate.
If as you claim to be a caring supporter, why do you major on the negatives of the academy rather than the positives? Do you not think that there are any positives? Heslop, Atkinson, Potter and Butterfield have all come through the Academy in the last four years and were deemed worthy of professional contracts. Who is responsible for their development when they move up to the professional ranks because it doesn't stop when you are 18.
I don't know if you're right or not But it does seem very odd. There are a number of users that only use this board to attack red rain.
Heslop Potter Atkinson Butterfield Heslop - subs bench when no other alternatives.
Potter - likewise, but maybe Kettering can bring him on.
Atkinson - gone fishing.
Butterfield - few sub appearances.

Hardly a ringing endorsement are they ? And I am not bemoaning their respective talents - I'd have given Heslop more of a chance and kept Atkinson. I'm asking why they haven't made the 1st team as regulars by now ? Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Leeds would have given them a chance by now imho.
Instead of asking Red rain, why don't you ask Simon Davey why these lads don't get a real chance. Davey said they wouldn't change the game V Bristol, so surely he's criticising them more than anyone else ?

RE: I don't know if you're right or not I don't think that he should have a go at the academy each week without backing up his opinions with reasons, that's all. Example> RNL is in danger of being ruined. I read all the bo**ocks on here about Davey must go, Davey must stay but I don't feel there is any value in voicing my thoughts. Patrick Cryne won't take any notice of us. He is his own man as we have seen. As I said already I have only watched the academy team once this season so I would comment on the players ability but do they need any additional negative feedback?
You'd be a lot better received...
...if you weren't sneaking around pretending to be two different people.

And if they'd respond to other posts rather than persistently trying to counter anything Red Rain says.

RE: Heslop Potter Atkinson Butterfield Good points well made! I am not saying that they are good enough or not as I like you have not seen enough of them to know. On what I had seen, I too would have kept Atkinson. If Davey's background is from Youth football, surely he should want to give them a chance but perhap given the "NO SUBS" used in the game at Bristol City, perhaps he won't give them a chance. With regards to Red Rain, I just don't see the value in slagging off the kids!
It must just be me Because I don't interperet any of Red rain's posts as 'slaggingoff the kids' - indeed he qualifies a lot of his points with regard to their ages when playing against more senior lads, the games they've played recently etc.
The fact remains though, that Barnsley Academy scholars generally do not currently become 1st team regulars. Now, is that because the intake isn't good enough ? the coaching isn't good enough ? Or the manager has some problem with using Academy products ?
