I've lost a mobile phone today, it's a crappy old thing that's worth sod all but no doubt some scrote somewhere can get a tenner off a mate for it so instead of handing it in they've held on to it.

As daft as it sounds I had a bit of sentimental attachment to the SIM card as it was my fathers phone/sim.

Anyway, I'm stuffed for getting it back but can I transfer the number to another SIM card, and is there any possibility of getting numbers etc from any kind of network back-up or are they all lost with the SIM?

You can block the old sim

and move your old number to your new phone. Not sure about the numbers though, they may all be lost I'm afraid

If you phone up Vodafone, O2 or whoever your operator was they will stop the SIM so that no-one else can make calls on it again. Theycan then issue you a new SIM with the same number but will probably charge you for this, perhaps £10.

As for the stored numbers on the SIM, they are gone I'm afraid ..
