Appointed Caretaker 22/11/06 - Acheived 3 wins out of 8. This run included the 3-0 dibarcle Vs Sheff Weds where he stood there like a lost puppy waving his hand from side to side. Next day he is appointed manager and ends up with a further 8 wins out of 22 which saw us safe (JUST) but ended with us getting whipped 7-0 at West Brom. Over the summer he is given the most cash to spend for over 5 years and wastes it on the likes of Johnson, Christensen & Mostto who look good enough but he refuses to play and some nightclub bouncer type passing himself off as a centre forward who goes by the name of Kayodi. Credit Due, the signings of Campbell-Ryce, Souza, Muller & Foster were class and few decent results saw us riding high in SEPTEMBER!!! By December we had been shown up on the telly at Hull and slipped down the table quicker than a fireman down a pole to an emergency. Approaching Christmas he had managed 8 wins from 26 and was duely awarded with a new 2 year contract. Heading into 2008 the amazing cup run that masked a lot of what was wrong with Reds hid the fact that from January to April Barnsley won only 6 out of 20 league games. The persistance of playing Hassell proved fruitless and if it wasnt for Benitez making Barnsleys best substitution at Anfield by taking off Ryan Babbel we wouldnt have even had the luxury of the cup run to fall back on! Clinging onto survival on the 2nd to last game of the season for the 2nd successive year saw even more cash injection. £1.2m signing Ian Hume saw The Reds spend the most on a player for over 10 years and added to the Januray signings of Da Silva, Macken, Leon & Steele which on paper looked like a team capable of competing at Championship level. A 2-1 defeat at QPR on the opening day which saw new signings Hume & Moore have contrasting starts highlighted the disorganisation of the team, a sluggish defence at best and players adapting to positions that were alien to them. 2 further defeats were followed by a 'LUCKY' victory at home to Derby where, if it wasnt for the heroics of Luke Steele, Derby could have been out of site before Hume struck a wondergoal to nab all 3 points. This was followed by more abject performances which included the worst Barnsley display since the days of Steve Parkin at home to Cardiff. No passion, No flair, No Leadership from the sidelines, Not a clue. Cardiff didn't break sweat and coasted to a 1-0 victory which saw Odejayi put in a performance worse than usual, one pre planned substitution despite the team being given the run around and a defender being thrown up front for the last 10 minutes despite a Peruvian international striker sitting on the bench. A couple of games later and another hammering at Ipswich so the manager decides to throw a 15 year old into the team which was clearly just a ploy to deflect attention away from how bad the team are doing. I was ready for walking out at 4:10pm last saturday. It was awful. The sending off proved that the defence should include Foster in the middle and Hassell at right back. Any other team than Donny would have killed us but fair play to the boys they knuckled down and some top notch performances were put in especially by JCR and Anderson but at half time I was wondering if Mr Davey was going to throw on a Koala on for the last ten minutes to become the first marcupial to play in the English league in another attempt to deflect the attention. In sumary, I know this is a long post, not as long as Mr Davey has outstayed his welcome as manager of our club but the truth is he is out of his depth, hasn't got a clue, can not get these fine players to play decent football of which we know they are capable and still, after nearly 2 years, doesn't know the meaning of Plan B. If nothing goes right with the starting 11 and we find ourselves a goal down early on, then thats it, game over! It's gonna be another long hard slog for survival and a 15 year old kid wont help us stay up! Get Davey out now - before it is too late! Record P94 W32 L44 D18 Win percentage - 34%
1000% agree, do me a favour matey.... send that to the Chronicle. maybe some of the rose tinted glass wearers will be able to read it and finally get the clear and unavoidable facts
Dont agree We had a difficult first 4 matches After the defeats in 3 of those, even tho we had played well, I think the confidence within the team went on a downer The team has had injuries to some of the key players, Muller and Sousa the main ones. Collace was late getting out of the blocks and is now injured The Howard debacle was rumbleing on.......and upsetting everyone at the club, and this is coming out of the club first hand So its been a difficult start But, if we had got Phillips or one or two players up front with similar guile then there wouldn't be any mention of problems with Davey. Davey has brought some very good players to the club, unfortunatly none of these have been out and out strikers
We need medium to long term planning..........NOT a quick fix The reasons I think we have started poorly are posted in another thread above But what happens if we did get rid of Davey Firstly, who would want the job ??? given that we are third from bottom and a gagging has been put on everybody involved in the Howard palava Secondly, if we did manage to get a decent manager, and this is not quarenteed, what then. Usually there is a sudden change in results followed by a slip back into the position we were before. Why, because success is built year on year, season on season.........it very very rarely comes through a flash in the pan Example (as much as I hate to mention this), Neil Warnock...........picked the Blunts up 3rd from bottom manage to keep them up that season. Brought in about 4 players in the close season Brought in about 4 players the following season This went on season after season until they were knocking on the door for promotion nearly every season The directors then released some real money for him to spend ..............BINGO !!! They get £40 MILLION for being in the Premeirship They are looking to receive another £30 MILLION now
Agree with nearly all of what you saybutto quote you........."The persitence of playing howard proved fruitless".........."The sending off proved that the defence should include Foster in the middle and Hassell at right back.
What do you want?
It's sounds like your asindecisiveas davey himself!

I said he persisted in playing Hassell in midfield which proved fruitless - apologies if this didnt read as intended! Obviously he is an out and out right back and should never have played so many games in the middle! We looked far more balanced with him at right back on saturday with Foster in the middle! As for who would come in as manager?? - Billy Davies sorted out Derby quickly enough when they started as badly as us the other year! Alladyce is free
Think you would find quite a few managers willing to come and manage us. In fairness we have quite a few decent players and I feel the downfall for large parts is the fact he continued to play players out of position, didn't use the full squad to give players a rest / out of form. Davey may have the badges but he lacks in allot of areas.
OOOH LOOK, AN OSTRICH.If he goes back to the Playstation, will you stick yer head in the sand again whats wrong , do the cold hard facts scare you
RE: Go back to the Playstation Good post - how long did it take to come up with that pithy and "original" comment?
