I would hate it if people on here misunderstood Patrick Cryne's comment. His comment was at the tail end of him telling us how hard working Simon Davey was. He told us that Davey is extremely good at his job, had travelled extensively to watch players and had paid for these trips out of his own pocket and not charged the club. They admired his workrate and commitment, his discipline and the manner in which the players have adapted to his methods of doing things. He then went on to say that Simon was very ambitious and that one day he would want to manage a bigger and more successful club than Barnsley FC. Cryne also felt that eventually that would be the case and they would not be able to stand in his way if that did so happen. I am sure that no one in that meeting and I include myself, thought that Simon Davey was using us and wanted to 'get out', instead people admired and were commenting upon his total commitment to the club and how hard he was working to bring about both change and success. Should he leave further down the line, then he will have earned his right to move on. I have met him several times and have always been struck by his positivity (that was commented upon last night too) and by "how proud he was to be Manager of a Club such as Barnsley - a Championship Club" and those were his exact words to me! At the Supporters Club meeting way back when he was being utterly pilloried, he spoke then of how he and his team would work tirelessy to achieve success for Barnsley Football Club both on and off the pitch. So far, I think he has kept pretty much to his promise.
Some People Will Moan About Anything I guess it pains some "fans" for us to be doing so well on the pitch and so they would like to moan about something that's not even true. I wouldn't blame Simon moving on one day and I would wish him the best. For now though he doesn't need idiots thinking he's looking for a way out. Everyone needs to stay behind him. He's doing a great job.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE ...read the quote and ...
Don't forget two words ... ONE DAY
People shouldn't get carried away with headlines that give the wrong impression, when all they need to do is read the text.
Simon Davey, I'm sure, is an ambitious person whohas a fantastic opportunity to develop his career pathby turning Barnsley FC around. If he can do that, and by present standards he can, then it is inevitable that bigger clubs are going to want him to do the same for them.
It would be wrong for Simon to think that a few months and a few good results makes him ready for the Premiership, and I'm sure he doesn't. I trust him to do the very best in his current role for as long as he is here. When the offer comes, it won't be before he has done a great deal of good for this football club. So let's all get behind him and give him all our support and when the time comes give him our thanks and best wishes for the future. As someone suggested the other day, don't be surprised if he becomes Welsh manager in the next ten years !

He's doing a good job but why does he have to imply that Barnsley -- 'a championship club' -- are no more than a stepping stone to other, loftier objectives. Can you imagine how the Wednesday fans would respond if their manager made similar comments? What with them being a massive club, 'n all. Why not go the whole hog and lay it on the line: I'll make do with the wages a little club like you can afford to pay me until I finally move on to a proper club where my talents will get the showcase they deserve.
At no point in that text did you write that Simon Davey had said he would want to move on to manage a bigger club. It reads that it's PC's opinion that is what he will want to do.
Is that the correct interpretation Tina ?

He hasn't implied that at all - by saying a 'Championship Club' he was implying how proud he was as we were no longer a League 1 Club. That is why he set about making the professional changes that he did, as befits a 'Championship Club' ie the players arriving in suits, a highly skilled and highly qualified backroom staff etc. You have chosen to read it as if he is implying that by being a 'Championship Club then considers it second best to Premiership. On the contrary he meant completely the opposite. I know because I heard him say it and have it on film when the children interviewed him.
Exactly Dave. Simon Davey wasn't even at the meeting and PC was the one who said he would 'probably go on to manage a bigger and more successful club' I have tried to point out, that from my dealings with him last year when we were making the BFC Documentary, the impression he gave me was that he was utterly, utterly proud to be the Manager of BFC. He considered us a 'big club', a 'Championship club' (Ie no longer in League 1) and that he would give his all to bring success. I never doubted him after those dealings with him and seeing how professional the set up was backstage. That's why I have been so positive about Davey. Trouble is, people on here interpret it how they wish but all at the meeting last night knew exactly what Cryne meant and it was nowt to do with thinking that Davey considered us inferior or a stepping stone and that's the honest truth.
So at your job, have you never thought of working for someone else one day in a bigger job? Of course I have. But I wouldn't go around telling my colleagues how I was content to be with them for the time being but that one day I was going to be a big shot. If he achieves his ambitions I'll be impressed with him. I'm not impressed by his predicting it's going to happen.
They will, won't they? Had a go at Rob Knowles recently? I'm sure there'll be a comma missing somewhere on the front page if you look hard enough.
He never bloody said that for god's sake! Why don't you read the post? . It was Patrcick Cryne that said it NOT Davey Jeeeeeeeeeez You are from the bloody stoneage!
The problem is that PC however well meaning, has a way of giving his opinion in a manner fromwhich a 'sound bite' can be taken. In fairness he can't win, if he doesn't talk to the fans, then the board are percieved as aloof, if he does then what he says can be misinterpreted... bit like 'bums on seats/ box office' last year.
RE: They will, won't they? Apart from two spelling mistakes in first three words of the Anderson De Silva interview in the Cardiff programme, things have improved much lately. However some people yesterday were having a go at him for having a two year old related link next to an article on the official website. Dunno if you saw them do that. Go and have a go at them (Y) (Y) (Y)
