I think he's learning the job And as such, we have to accept that, and take the rough with the smooth. That said, considering the amount of players he's brought to the club on the proviso that they are an improvement on the likes of Richards, Hayes, Reid et al, and the fact that there's 6 games to go and we are in the bottom 3 is a tad disappointing.
His job depends on those new players producing imho.

But dirk If you employed somebody to manage your opticians for you and 17 months later he was underperforming would you accept it as an excuse if he told you he was still learning the job?
Different things Neither Shepherd nor Cryne have managed football teams. they can't step in and give him tactical advice etc. They've employed someone who they obviously believe has the ability to do that.
Last season isn't fair to judge him on, despite the fact he kept us up ( Andy Ritchie's team)
This pre season he asked to be judged on his own players, fair enough, there's 6 games left before we judge him.

It's a struggle. But now isn't the time imho to for wailing and nashing of teeth. we quite simply HAVE to climb the league.
My hope is that he's learnt a lot from this season, not least of all that he needs a very large helping hand when it comes to identifying strikers. He also needs to accept that ouir current best back 4 is Kozluk left back, Nyatanga and Souza centre halves and Foster at right back. Van Homoet can't play football.

If we don't go down it'll have been a very good season. I think the league is stronger than last year and we've had the distraction of the cup (even though it shouldn't be an excuse, I think it has had an effect).
RE: It's a struggle. Me neither. Not as gutting as losing in a Championship play off final for me, but still a horrible 'day out'
Couldnt agree more even 4th bottom in this league is progress from last year, and will need a higher points tally. The FA Cup has been a distraction but has also provided valuable income, given that our season average league home gate is actually down on last year. there is no way on earth the team from last year couldve put on those performances at Anfield and against Chelsea. no way.
RE: 4th bottom is progress from last season? But we'll finish with 2/3 points more than last season. Bargain for £2million+ spent on transfer fees etc.
RE: It's a struggle. Why any manager, whether it be Davey or anyone else would want to split up the partnership of Foster/Souza in the centre of defence is beyond my comprehension. As far as Van Homoet is concerned, I've seen him play several times this season and he has not looked any worse than others that have played at RB, with the exception of Foster. Based on his performance against Chelsea, when he subdued not one but two international class left wingers and having listened to comments from more knowledgeable pundits than yourself, I think you may be in line for a visit to SPECSAVERS. As I believe I have suggested before, I think you should stick to Netball or Crown Green Bowling or something like that, because you clearly wouldn't recognise a good footballer if you fell over one.
Based on spending and wages, its a miracle we're still in with a shout of staying up. check out how much Southampton, Leicester, Norwich and Coventry have spent and wage bill is related to income remember.
RE: It's a struggle. There was a Van Homoet Bruma playing for the Chelsea Youth team in the FA Youth Cup final , maybe Simon thought we were signing him?
RE: Based on spending True, but i'm still of the opinion that given the amount of money he's had to spend and the backing from the board I think he should have been able to put together a team that was capable of staying up comfortably without an end of season panic. Just to clarify when i say comfortably i mean somewhere between 16-18th, which we could still finish in but it's looking very unlikely. Obviosuly the injury to de Silva hasn't helped but still.
