The way I see it is that in the eyes of some this record means they love him

    Played: 131
    Won: 43
    Lost: 59
    Drawn: 29

While I'm pretty sure this record would very much change their opinion.

    Played: 130
    Won: 42
    Lost: 59
    Drawn: 29

Can anyone guess what changed in these two records?

    Correct

The only difference between the two records is that in one we lost against chelsea, in the other we didnt. That one victory makes so much difference to some people. Without it we had a decent cup run with a shock victory much like we've seen several times in the past, with it davey is god and no matter how badly he performs throughout the rest of his barnsley career he cannot be criticised

Not as bad as daveys has been over an identical period at times

And its kind of hard to compare how he did when he had no money to spend and had players signed in league one to how davey has done with millions to spend and three years to do it in

With the PPG record he had barnsley would have finished on a massive 38 points.

I think davey has done a good job with the limited resources hes had. Its not like we are a big club with lots of money so its always going to be difficult to attract the players he wants

Might as well pack up and go home then hadn't we

Then Cryne can apply to build houses on the whole carpark not just the bottom half.

If doing his job is avoiding relegation every year by the skin of his teeth and showing no improvement then barnsley's ambition is non existent and without ANY ambition what is the point?

Also if 'keeping us up' is doing his job then we have been lied to by certain people at the club.

sorry to spoil things with some figures but............

Ritchie got 15 points from 18 games

Davey's 18 game sequences are below-he has only hit 15 twice-just after the Cup runs!

Or to put it another way

    Ritchie's highest league finish - 49th
    Davey's highest league finish - 38th

Its a glib reponse and not comparable, but stats can prove anything however you spin them. I was a huge Ritchie fan and we should never have sacked him. However, we did and therefore have to move on, and Davey should be judged on his own merits. I think he is a decent manager with a lot to learn who makes mistakes. that said I think he has kept us up in a very tough division with limited resources. I just can't believe the nonsense about him being the worst manager in the world etc. I can understand people not rating him but surely thats an on balance view?

    I was born in 1981

and we played out first game in the second tier of English football following promotion a week before I was born. It took the first 16 years of my life for us to get promoted again. I've been incredibly lucky that bar a few seasons every year has been spent in the top two divisions.

To say being in the bottom half of the championship doesn't show ambition is wrong IMHO. It shows that we as a club have aimed higher than the natural order of things. We shouldn't stop by aiming there and if we can get everything right over a period of time both on and off the pitch the cyclical nature of football will dictate that we will have seasons were we push higher.

Ulitmately though we are doign very well to be in the championship. if you want us to be pushing for promotion every single season then go and support Sheff Utd who will spend silly money doing it. If you want us to win the premier league then support man utd.

One of the joys of supporting a club like Barnsley is that it isn't constant success. The bad days mean that the good days taste so much sweeter. Barnsley has given me some of the best days of my life, three of which have been under Simon Davey. We are right to criticise the club and the management. We are the fans, it is our club and that will transcend owners and managers. Inevitabley some fans will have unrealistic expectations, some will have overly low expectations.

However, the one thing you need is optimism. If not supporting any football club who you do not choose to follow but inherit, will be a miserable task as success is cyclical and we will not always enjoy good times.
