POST MATCH REACTION FROM OAKWELL Posted on: Sat 19 Apr 2008 REDS boss Simon Davey gave his thoughts following today's disappointment at Oakwell. Simon said: "Over the game I thought we deserved something. We did not put our chances away and when you do not score then that can always happen. "We hit the post twice, had a stonewall penalty waved away and things just did not go our way. "This relegation battle will twist and turn in the next two weeks but we have to make sure that we take care of our own business. We did not do that today. "We will come back in next week, work hard and make sure we do it against Charlton. We should be sitting here now talking about being safe, We have not done that so we have to do it next week. "It is a mans game out there and sometimes we did well against that and at others we didn't today. "We now have to make sure we finish the job against Charlton, They have nothing to play for now and will be a different animal here. They will be able to play with freedom and we have to be ready for that. "It is hurting today and we have to get that out of our system and shake it out of us this week. "There will be plenty of twists and turns still to come. The most important thing is that it is still on our hands and we have to do our own business next week. There are big games all over next week but none is bigger than ours. "I am confident that we will not go down. We just have to make sure of it next week. We always seem to do things that hard way. "It was a blatant penalty. I have seen the video and it is a definite pull on Kayode (Odejayi). We do not seem to get those decisions at the moment. "It was a very soft goal to concede and came at a time when we were well on top. We were hit by a break away and gave them a very soft goal which we should have defended better".
He Thinks We Deserved Something? They scored and we didn't. Therefore they deserved to win as goals win games.
I think his observations are spot on. Let's forget today and concentrate on beating Charlton next week. Southampton have two very tough fixtures, I'm still confident we will avoid the drop although we do seem to like making it hard for ourselves.
RE: We did deserve something today but we did'nt take our chances ! Because he got the players who can't score - simple
we DESERVE to go down playing like that, nardiello (it grates on me to say his name) should never have been on the field, KO should from the start along with JCR..daveys tactics were awful, he made the chages too late, it was obvious from minute 1 we needed a big lad up front to bully them, they would have **** themselves with KO, and we WOULD have won.... get rid of SD now.................no idea................
RE: We did deserve something today but we did'nt take our chances ! because he has assembled a totally inept strikeforce something thats been blindingly obvious for months and done nowt to improve the situation
nardiello was the best striker by a mile today he had their man beat every time (When he felt like it) Davey did get the tactics wrong though, he fecked up exactly the same as he has for the second half of the season, wrong midfield. 3 strikers on the bench again. no defensive players at all.
because he released our old strikers, he signed the new strikers, he chose which ones to include in his 16, he refuses to play christensen. simon davey's fault entirely.
lol, if he was then i'm sure he'd know a few extra things, like deep defensive line and vendettas towards players for no good enough reason.
Dragon Tyke and Uncle Mort .....er both weren't there todayso opinion isn't worth a toss !!! Dreamboy I worry ... were you there ? I thought we deserved to win the game at a canter until we conceeded then we looked clueless. </p>
When the manager makes the same statements, almost word for word, after every losing game, you don't have to have been there to be able to make a comment.
I'd agree with the vast majority of that, except the bit about being on top when they scored - at that point their goal had been coming and they'd had a good spell bossing the game.
RE: nardiello was the best striker by a mile today He didnt need a defender on the bench. He could have just shifted Hassell in there, then put Leon in the middle and brought on JCR/Coulsen on the wing.
