This wasn’t just the first time Coulson had started a league game for Barnsley, it was the first time he’d ever started a game in the Football League. Not only that, but it came just over a week after Davey claimed that Coulson wasn’t ready to start a match.

If I were the chairman of Barnsley Football Club, Simon Davey would be in my office first thing Monday morning explaining exactly how such a selection benefits either the player or the team. It wasn’t just poor tactics, it was a ridiculous decision that someone in Simon Davey’s position should not be making.

This is one of a multitude of reasons why I’ll never be a chairman of a football club, but while I’ve got Davey in my fantasy office I think I’ll ask him a few more questions, like:

Why have we spent a few hundred thousand on Kim Christensen yet never started him in a game?

In what way is Bobby Hassell a better option in midfield than either Sam Togwell or Andy Johnson?

Does he really think Marciano Van Homoet is a better full back than Rob Kozluk?

What benefits are the club gaining from him getting the bairn on with players and isn’t it about time he grew up a bit, acted like a manager and sorted out the differences he’s having with them?

I’d also point out that in the year or so he’s been manager we’ve made 15 permanent signings spending about one and three quarter million quid, yet, with a few exceptions, we may as well have signed the chorus from the local amateur dramatics society for all the impression they’ve made on the team and then gone and blown all the money on drugs, cocktails and ladyboys on a shindig in Bangkok.

"why on earth people outside the game believe that they know best is astonishing in the least"

    Nuff said.

    All spot on Jay.

    Well said

I was very pissed off to see Coulson play on his own but even more pissed off to see him bring his favourites on but have them playing together when he had allowed coulson to play 55 minutes with no support

disgraceful mr davey and pissing in the face of the fans who forked out a lot of money to go yesterday

Also took Diego Leon off the only one who tried to keep the ball and there was only Campbell Ryce and Leon who looked liked creating anything!

    Tha' knows nowt thee

Mind you neither do I but I am also outside football so obviously dont understand a few things - like how a young player can improve from not being ready to being sole striker in 1 week
like how impressing week after week in training is more important than producing on the pitch
like how a premiership full back is 4th choice
And dont start me on Christiansson

Lucky that common sense isnt more important than an inside knowledge eh

Is that like leaving your best defender on the bench??

Just because he disagrees with tactics which it seems are well founded with the amount of goals we are conceding

Davey ,despite his looks,is one of the youngest managers in the Football League .His experience in dealing with transfers, senior players, tactics ,managing a football club etc extends to one season. In short he lacks experience. I guess thats why he has been given a relatively long contract , Shepherd and Cryne obviously think he has the potential to start to deliver in his 3rd or 4th year, but unless he curbs his negative approach away from home and improves tactically ( particularly substitutions) he might not get that long

    Agree with your comments and

    I would also ask him.
    ===
Who saw Mostto play and recommended we spend 400 thousand on him

Who told us Odejayi was well worth the 200 plus thousand and urged we sign him

Why is he not killing dead this constant speculation re Howard and Muller and Kozluk which must be undermining morale

These questions I would ask him after yours. I do, however, think if I was the Chairman asking the questions I would feel guilty because I would be partly to blame for some of his failings, like approving the spending and not denying the players speculations.

Good post Jay and some other questions....

how come we can't up the money for Werling, yet can afford to have our highest paid player either on the bench or not picked at all

more than not starting with Christensen, how come he can't even get into the squad. If he's not good enough why haven't we transfer listed him?

why did we even bother starting with negative tactics? if you go there not to win, you might as well just go hell for leather cos if you lose, it's what you probably expected in the first place.

if Diego Leon's our new midfield star, why the hell did he get taken off?

Journo, these were the sort of questions I was alluding to last week when I asked you about your after match sessions with Davey. after the slatings you and your colleagues dish out as fans in the commentaries you then appear to go all "establishment" in the press conference.

Mate, whatever your personal opinions might be, whether a fan, journalist or both, you can't openly question the manager's tactics in front of them.

The result will be no more interviews.

    End of.
