To quote Guus Hiddink on the Sky Sports Website - He explained: "We'll attack England whenever we can. You saw with Israel that when you have a philosophy to defend at all costs it almost always backfires. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12016_2720970,00.html From what I've seen with us I'll agree with that.
That was a complete one off. Up to then they had never won a match in a major competition. They also have a lot higher quality of strikers than we have so the comparison is that they have attackers who might only need 1 or 2 chances to take advantage. Or maybe a set piece which most of their goals came from if I remember. They where 100/1 outsiders and the fact they failed miserably to qualify for the world Cup shows it was just down to luck and would put a big bet on that they wouldn’t make it through the group stages next year. Even we got lucky on occasions, Stoke away to name one occasion. I have no interest in watching us away at the moment due to the way we play most of the time. I paid to go to Newcastle and West Brom and all I saw was negativity and a performance which was never going to get a result. Guus Hiddink is a well respected manager who has won a lot in his career so he knows what he’s talking about.
RE: A post about football?? It's all about striking the right balance between defence and attack. Our defence has already conceded a few goals so why try and go out and murder two quality teams away from home and increase the chances of a real old drubbing which will further knock the confidence of an under fire defence. Talking of the Stoke game I do remember many people - on BBS included - stating that Davey had got his tactixs right in that game. As usual, it's results that matter not tactics - we could easily have lost that game incidently - and until we get a few points om the board then no doubt we need a scapegoat of some sort.
