After reading comments on this board what would S.D have to do to be accepted.I get the impression some fans will never want him because "I didn't want him in the first place" I can't remember apart from Jim Illey and to a degree Mel Machin any manager having to put up with such spiteful venom for being in charge of a football club.

Similar senario at Bolton where Gary Megson as done a fantastic job keeping the team in the Premiership and indeed last year leading the club into Europe but large sections of their fan base want him out because "I didn't want him in the first place"

I think the only thing for S.D to do is resign because if we won the first 4 games next season and lost the 5th the noose would be out again.

Before I get accused of being a Davey lover I'll tell you where I stand.I support Barnsley Football club and whoever is in charge get my backing (apart from Spackman) the people above make the decision when to make changes.

Some fans said at the start of the season a midtable finish would be acceptable, well looking back we were 2 penalty misses from finishing above teams like Nottingham Forest,Derby County and Coventry who like the bottom 3 have almost double our crowds.I think realism as got to enter any arguments before we throw another "Christian into the den".

"whoever is in charge get my backing (apart from Spackman)"

So why does that make you any different from the ones that want Davey out?

We were only a few penalty misses from finishing higher. Have you looked at how many points Norwich may have thrown away? Thought not. How do you know that they weren't a few penalty misses away from safety at our expense?

bang on that mate! people seem to forget that the priority was to stay in the league, altho cryne said year on year improvement, like u say 2 penalty misses away from a midtable-ish finish, and also the hume incident have impacted on the season greatly. dont forget wilson had his critics as a player and as a manager for us. davey needs to learn from his mistakes tho re tactics. but continuity is key. i dont think changing the manager would have been a good idea unless it was a proven experienced championship manager, with millions to spend. fair play to davey for wanting to stick around after the abuse he gets. next season will be better than this.

I also backed Spackman when we appointed him but when I saw what he was doing to our club he is the only manager i have ever disliked with a passion.Think no passion for the club and administration and you'll not be far wrong with Mr Spackman.

I've nowt against Simon Davey personally

I don't think he's that bad with the media, he seems to come across OK to me, although I wasn't happy when he refused to speak to the radio station that does the best sports coverage in the area. I'd be more than happy with him at the club if we were doing well. I just think he's had a decent amount of time and a fair bit of money but has failed to move us on. I won't be demanding his sacking on here and I won't be shouting 'Davey Out' at the games, but I do think the time is right for a change if we can identify worthwhile successor.

Thanks for your comments but you miss the point, for those who didn't want him in the first place what has S.D to do to be accepted.

RE: Some fans don't want him because of the bleedin obvious.....

you mean for two seasons running, Bolton in their 1st two years in the prem under big sam were in a relegation fight then look what happened?

I think the original post is a fair point though, no matter what the result some fans will never give SD any credit, we win and its because of the players, we lose its the manager and tatics.

Prime example; we beat Donny away 1-0 to complete the double over our biggest boggie team in years and local rivials and you read comments like "we were holding on for dear life against the worst team in the league", "SD did not make the subs early enough in the game" "we should beat little old donny by 3 or 4 goals, why are we so happy?"

Happy because we won and against a rival. Granted this is just some fans who will never give him credit, others like you say think 2 years relegation fight is not good enough, others might just be fecking sick of us changing managers at the first sign of trouble and are willing to give him a chance.

The one question I have is, if we get rid of him, who will we get to replace him? Ince, Jewell, Hoddle, Keane, we'll have all the big expectations for a big name only for Dave Hannock to return to the club and take charge, especially when PC sounds like he is ready to pack in, hardly a great advertisement is it?

I'd suggest that probably 99% of fans didn't want him when it was announced.

Most people were hoping for a better appointment. So he did win over many fans. Ask S.M he was a convert via a personal meeting with Mr Shepherd.
