I do genuinely feel that Simon Davey is dedicated to our Club. Any dealings I have had with him re school etc, he has always been fantastic. It saddens me that he has never been able to win the majority of fans over as 'one to one' he is great. Talking to him you can see just how enthusiastic he is for the job. His standards of professionalism for himself and the players are high and there's no doubt in my mind that he has the club's best interests at heart. I am confident about that. I am not going to deny that he isn't ambitious. It would be detrimental for us as fans and for the Club for him not to be. There is no doubt he has hunger and a passion to do well at our Club. I have never once thought that our Club was a 'stepping stone' for him. He has always said, both privately and publically, how honoured he is to be Manager of BFC and that he and his team would work tirelessly to bring success to the Club. Like many on this Forum, I have been frustrated at some of his baffling formations and seemingly lack of plan B but I will stick by him as who could we get who would be better? He has started a plan. He has totally transformed the Club backstage, the players obviously rate him, they enjoy the training, he has them 'bonded' well, PC rates him highly as he is able to see how he performs on a daily basis in all aspects of football management whereas we don't. He needs to be allowed to finish what he has started - I am sure that plan includes getting back to the Premier. He is bright, articulate, diligent and wants to take our club forward. Let him get on with it and back the team. I for one have no idea how he manages to work with such hatred and animosity hurled at him constantly. Lesser men would have bowed out - look at Paul Harte for example! Full credit to the man that he is able to put that behind him and still keep working with enthusiasm, that alone takes a special kind of mentality and character. Why not look at his better qualities? Compare him to that awful Billy Davies who needs about 10 million before he even contemplates getting started. Davey is working on a tight budget. Some of his signings will work out, some will not but that's the case with all Managers surely. He is here to stay so it's just negative energy wasting time moaning. There's a massive game on Saturday and we all need to be behind the Manager and players 100% YoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooReds! Cue all the Davey haters now.... (hidebehindsofa)
excellent post tina keyboard warriors take note - this lass goes to games, watches and comments constructively.
well said tina brilliant post of course me and slawit red just love him to bits, but our andy hes a bit slow maturing i will have to have a word we his mother.
god a breath of fresh air.... so much negativity on here towards davey its unbelievable at times...how is negativity constructive??? i think if we ditched davey like so many people on here want...then without doubt we would be relegated this season...at least with davey and team in charge...we have a fighting chance....i reallt believe that despite his weird tactics last year and woeful performances on the pitch..that he's learned his lesson. Roll On saturday at the owls!!! I'm excited are you??
A very good post even if I don’t agree with everything. I'm not Davey's biggest fan and have been vocal in my criticism of him at times but my stance now is that i am happy to give him another chance. I believe him when he says that he has learned his lessons and on that basis I am happy to give him chance, support him and see how he gets on.
A world of difference so far in pre-season I think that Cryne's challenge to him may have worked. Let's hope the positives continue into the start of the season. I am not sure what is meant by comments about the fans having expectations which are too high. The club ought to be aiming for the play-offs. It doesn't matter much if we don't get there and few would be EXPECTING promotion, but young, fit and competent players need a challenge and the play-offs is ambitious, but realistic. I think we quite enjoy the 'poor old Barnsley' bit, when, in truth, we have a very talented squad, well able to hold there own in the Championship. Over and above the competency of the players, we have a well-bonded team - none of that 'waiting to gel' stuff this time, thank you. The players know each other and just need that bit of motivation. Season plan = aim for play-offs; get established in mid-table with just the occasional glimpse of the upper trap-door and enjoy a combative season in which we just now and then play off the park a team like Boro, or Newcastle and really show the quality of the side. That will do for me! Give Davey a chance - absolutely! He has been better than most politicians in holding his hands up to the fans and admitting some mistakes. He is yet young in managerial terms. If he is learning well on reflection from the past seasons, this could be his best season as a manager so far. We have to aim for that. The king is not dead - long live the king!
RE: A world of difference so far in pre-season fully agree, he knows he made mistakes and fingers crossed, he can remedy them this season Matty
impressive post, and I have to agree on a lot of it. Alex Ferguson,Rafa Benitez, Danny Wilson to name but 3 were all at the hand of the 'outboys' campaign early doors. They all got it right evantually and the fans respect and love.Hopefully this is the season that Simon "comes of age" as it were managerially. So far his pre-season preparation has indeed impressed me, the results are of little consequence but were also good viewing. The frequency of matches, the training regime the Spanish trip all seem very very proffesional .The transfer market seems to be the same almost at most clubs up and down the country, well the ones who have to watch the purse strings that is. My optimism for the new season is good and I think we will be away from the strugglers this term.Only complaint is the fact that the club still seems to have this "behind doors" "cloak and dagger" attitude, but thats been the case from well before the premier season so we should be used to that.On saturday we play Sheffield wednesday , and we will not lose that one,not saying we will win but am saying we will not lose it. I am looking forward now to the big kick off.
I wouldn't dispute that he's dedicated or enthusiastic but it doesn't make him a good manager He has failed to take us forward and that's been proven by the league tables Paul Hart didn't walk btw - he was given the boot and rightly so and considering the dross Davey has served up he's come out of things relatively unscathed
Very well constructed post,.......... and I'm sure he's an absolute gent, but it does'nt alter the fact that his tenure is littered with basic errors, errors he just did'nt learn from, he has a stubborness that infuriates most supportes, his tactical nous is non existent and as the post stated he has no plan B thus teams figure us out and we can't combat it. People harp on and on about our cup exploits against Liverpool and Chelsea, and yes it was great, but study the league stats and performances and that will give the true reflection of his abilities. Again I don't dislike Davey just for the sake of it, I dislike Davey, the manager, because I genuinely feel he's not upto the job, previous seasons under his stewardship are testament to this, ok he kept us up, but, the football in the most part has been dreadful, and I wil be there at nearly every home game (work interferes somtimes), if Davey proves me wrong then nobody will be more happy than I, mid-table is an absolute must this year to say that progress has been made.
RE: Very well constructed post,.......... Good shout Rufus. At least you are willing to give him your support.
