All i know (without being arsed to check)

is that he played for Preston (signed the same day as Beckham did when he went on loan there), and so played alongside Lucas.

Not sure if he was any good...or what position he was though.

Seems reasonably well connected so I hear...links with David Moyes which I guess could someday prove useful

From Official site - Who's who.

    SIMON DAVEY
    FIRST TEAM MANAGER

SIMON Davey was appointed as Academy Manager at Barnsley Football Club in the summer of 2006.

The 35-year-old Welshman started his professional career with Swansea City in 1989, match 58 appearances for the Swans before joining Carlisle United three years later.

A popular figure at Brunton Park, Simon skippered the Cumbrians during his 137 games and his 23 goals tempted Preston to splash out £125,000 to secure his services in 1995.

Apart from a brief loan spell with Darlington in 1997, Simon spent the rest of his playing career at Deepdale, playing 122 times and netting 22 goals from midfield before retiring through injury.

Simon moved into coaching after hanging up his boots and worked with the youngsters at Preston under the watchful eye of current Everton boss David Moyes and former Scotland manager Craig Brown. He left Preston in the summer of 2005.

One of the most highly-qualified young coaches in the English game, Simon picked up his UEFA 'C' Licence, UEFA 'B' Licence, UEFA 'A' Licence before taking the UEFA 'Pro' Licence in 2005. He also holds the Academy Managers Licence and UEFA 'Youth Licence'.

Appointed caretaker manager at Oakwell on November 21, 2006 and handed the reigns permanently on December 31, 2006.

    Sorry about my previous reply.
I thought you were lining your self up for an attack on Davey and the Club.
Theres been too much anti Davey stick dished out on here.
He's the man in charge and with Shepard and Crynes backing he has the potential to be an very good manager.

In a few years time he could be called a Judas on here if he impresses enough to have the Premiership boys come and get him.

History ? What history, to be fair like i i said in previous post, I will back Davey.

But, his history in managment is bunk, one signing from Man Unt and everyone as gone all overboard and wanting to kiss Simon Daveys hairy arse. Time will tell like previous managers on the quality they sign, Davey is no exception. He will be judged at the end of the month on the quality players that he brings in. In the mean time if we pick up 6 or 7 points in the league this month then i am sure that the dreaded ogre Davey will turn out to be a decent guy after-all. (titanic)

Shankly was a manager for many years before he went to Liverpool.
He served his managerial apprenticeship with clubs like Workington and Huddersfield.

Paisley was a self educated man who used to go into the Casualty Department at his local Hospital to learn first hand how to treat injuries when he was the club physio. He also did every job possible on the back room staff at Liverpool. Like Shanks he had a very long apprenticeship in the game.

If these two great men were begining their careers today they would be the first to enrole on Coaching Courses because unlike some Managers and players they did not believe they knew all they needed to know about the game. Paisley in particular was a forward thinker and had a very open mind.

I dont think anyones kissing his ar

se..its just a relief to sign the left back we have needed all season.

I am very worried by his appointment but I think its counter productive to continually slag off SD & GS when we've not really seen what they can achieve in the transfer market and on the pitch. Lets see where we stand in February before considering joining the lynch mob.

You wont have done any such thing

I am far from convinced we have appointed the right man. However he's got the job and thats that.

If we are using the I told you so attitude, I (and many others) expressed an opinion in July that if we did not make 3 or 4 quality signings by the start of the season we were relegation fodder...apparantly the saintly manager everyone keeps harping on abart did not see this or at the very least failed to do it.
