OUR ONE GOAL IS TO STAY IN THIS DIVISION Posted on: Thu 16 Apr 2009 REDS boss Simon Davey gave his thoughts ahead of the trip to Reading. Simon told Barnsley World TV: "We are fine ahead of the trip. We will go into the game with only Michael Coulson and Iain Hume missing from the squad. "The mood in the dressing room is fine. We are professionals and we know that everything is still in our hands. We have four games to go and it is for us to lose - we know that our squad is good enough to stay in this division. We have some tough fixtures but so has everybody else. Our mindset has not changed. We have to keep everybody focussed and bubbly and make sure we are still in this division. "We did not play badly against Swansea City but we never gave ourselves the chance to get a foothold in the game. We were one down after a minute - the delivery of the free kick was excellent but there was an individual error and someone lost their runner. Our reaction was good and we passed the ball well and created chances. We just could not get the goal and were hit by a suckerpunch. "We had an uphill task. We made a few changes in the second half and our reaction was positive again. We had another individual error to give them a third. You cannot legislate for that and you can work as hard as you possibly can on the training field all week on how you are going to play and what you are going to do but if people make individual errors you have to admit that there was nothing you could have done about it. "The lads know who made the errors. Players make errors at every club and in every game. We now have to pull together as a staff, as players and as supporters and get behind each other. We all have to make sure we support the players. The players have to support each other because errors happen every day and in every walk of life. If the error gets punished then it is highlighted. If it doesn't then everybody forgets about it. "We have four games to go and one goal. We all want to stay in this division. We have to make sure we are all pulling in the right direction". He added: "We have four matches left. We need to get points on the board. We have an idea of how many we need. We have to look at how people have gone to Reading and picked up points in the past. Reading are a good side with quality in their squad. They have had some excellent results through the season but teams have gone there and won and drawn. We have to look at how they played against them and set up in the right way to take something from the game. "Reading are a very defensive-minded, hard working team who rely on their strikers to get their goals. They are fantastic from set plays but we performed very, very well against them at our place. We have to take heart from that and also make sure that we want it more than them. We need eleven players on their game. We need everybody to perform to the best of their ability and if we can do that then I am sure we can get the right result. "We have to draw on the experiences we have had in the last two years. There is no point getting demoralised because of the situation we are in. We have performed well and picked up results this season. We have been here before. We have been lower coming out of a FA Cup Semi Final and in the bottom three and we got out of it. We got out of it the season before and we believe we will do it again. We have a better squad and we have to make sure everybody is pulling in the right direction. "I understand the frustrations at the moment. I am hurting more than anybody when we lose games. I do not want this football club to go down to League One. I do not want to lose my job. I want to make sure this Club is in the place it should be - the Championship. It doesn't help the players. I am the focal point and supporters will vent their fury at me. It is my team, my tactics and my decisions and I understand that. The players need support. Our one goal is to stay in this division and we need our supporters to get behind those players, the team and the staff and make sure we remain in it".
"We did not play badly against Swansea City" Sorry SD, but I'd disagree with that. But this is interesting "I do not want this football club to go down to League One. I do not want to lose my job"
if the mindset has not changed, then by definition Davey, you useless T*at, we can expect the same at Reading.
Hmmm That sounds like Patrick has givent him a clear statement .... Dilemma for the Anti Davey majority. Personally Id rather start next season in the Championship with Davey still at the helm that drop to league 1 to get rid.
Dunno Which Quote Is My Favourite "We have four matches left. We need to get points on the board" Talk about stating the bleeding obvious. "I am hurting more than anybody when we lose games" No you aren't. The fans are the ones hurting the most. "I do not want to lose my job" More of Simple Simon stating the obvious.
Thats the most worrying thing He seems to think we are playing well and if thats the case he'll continue to play the same useless tactics. We're fecked.
i disagree with the above. if we're still in this division next year with Davey, im not paying to watch *****, negative football for a season again. if we drop and get someone with optimisim in and keep some decent players, maybe ill have the optimism we'll do well and go. lets face it, if we stay up, its same again next season.
"We are looking at how other teams have picked up points at Reading" FFS Simon we should be concentrating on our own formation and way of playing but you cant seem to do that, you have an obsession with opposing teams and how they play! Davey also says "Reading are very defensive-minded and we played really well against them at Oakwell". This is despite the fact they had 10 men for a large part of that game and we still lost. Says it all really-clueless
It's a rallying call There's not much else he could say. He HAS to rally everyone. Anyway, our destiny is in our hands. We have the match in hand. We have to go for it, quickly closing down players, harrying them at every opportunity, no standing off the opposition giving them time to play. Play as we did against Liverpool and Chelsea for example. Players should leave the pitch exhausted through playing flat out for 90 minutes in ALL our remaining games.
One tactic for Reading.. ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!ATTACK!
We've played worse than monday... and got something from the game. We played miles better than Forest and Charlton as examples in my opinion.
Oh dear. "We have to look at how people have gone to Reading and picked up points in the past... We have to look at how they played against them and set up in the right way to take something from the game." So, rather than play our own game, we're going to try to mimic someone else's and hope it does the job? And he wonders why we're in the sh*t. Addition - looks like Silkstone Red bet me to dissecting this quote. I didn't copy though.
Yeah... In other words we'll try and defend and hit them on the break. Take the game to them. Attack them. Believe we can win. I don't want to hear how much fecking money Reading have got. Get their fans on their backs, they are on a bad run.
We need to support Team and Davey Even me at this point then when we're safe it will again be Davey out Chant for me
I do not want to lose my job why would he worry about that when he has a year left on his contract....??? Clearly Pat Cryne has said take us down and your fired.....
