BARNSLEY midfielder Brian Howard has believes manager Simon Davey has earned respect after masterminding his side's great escape last season.
Brian told Barnsley World TV: "Simon (Davey) came into the job last season and really stamped his authority on the dressing room from his first day.
"He was a real disciplinarian in the first few weeks and stamped his authority on the Club, the players and team. Since then he has become a real man-manager and you can have a bit of banter with him although the players still have huge respect for him.
"You can only judge Simon after his first full season - he did a great job coming in and keeping us up. Everybody has to respect him for that but this is his first full season and he is just as determined as anyone to prove that we should be in this league and that he has the ability and qualities needed to take this club forward at this level and beyond.
"We had a great start last season and we need that again. We had enough chances to beat Cardiff here on the opening day and that would have meant we went on to win our first three matches. That set us up really even though we had a bad spell in the middle of the season.
"You need a good start to give yourself a platform to build on".

It sounds like they didn't like him at first with his disciplinarian ways. But he kept us up, and sounds as though he is starting to find his feet with the man management side. We need to see how this effects the results on the pitch now.
apparently he's working their nuts off for pre season, its been said they have never been worked so hard... good on 'im
From what I was told there was hell on at first. But I've moaned for years about the players running the club. It's a fine balancing act between getting team spirit up and strong management. If Davey can do that then it's half the battle won. Keep Robbie Williams out of central midfield and we're on our way.....
What do people expect him to say: "Davey? Reight lovely person. All t'lads want to fill 'im in. Bring Andy back." I bet players gave Spackman the same glowing review.
Still need to see a few more signings (centrehalf *2 preferably). But am quite excited for this season. Only problem is I miss first match. Can you get oakwell am in spain?

No idea what you are on about I wrote that. Did the interview myself. Well, with myself actually. And that isn't a photo of him. I drew it. In ms paint.
Same here, but then again you wouldn't get a player coming out off his own back to say he has respect for his manager. There would be nothing to gain from it.
