"HOPEFULLY OUR FANS WILL TAKE TO HIM STRAIGHT AWAY"
REDS manager Simon Davey spoke exclusively to Barnsley World TV yesterday afternoon.
Simon told Barnsley World TV: "It is fantastic news really. We have been tracking Miguel for a while and we were quietly confident that we would get his work permit through but you never know whether it would be granted.
"We finally got the good news through this morning and it is a great signing for this football club. Miguel will start training with us on Thursday.
"When I spoke with my contacts abroad I told them I wanted a goalscorer with an international pedigree. Miguel's name just kept coming up time and time again and so he was identified to us that way. I went to watch him and he impressed me even after such a long flight.
"Miguel was sharp and looked a goalscorer. His workrate was good as well but you do not think that you really have a chance to sign these kinds of players even if you put the bid in. There are a lot of complications when you try to make any signing but bringing someone in from the other side of the world has allsorts of hurdles to cross.
"We managed to overcome those and brought Miguel over here a couple of weeks ago. He was impressed by what we have here and is desperate to play in the Championship.
"He has pledged his aliegence to Barnsley and hopefully we can do everything we can to help him settle in quickly and he can start scoring goals.
"Every player needs time to settle in. Miguel is coming from another continent after a 17-hour flight. He will bring his family across but will have to cope with not playing at altitude, like they do in Peru. There are lots of things that he will have to deal with but it is our job as a Club to make sure that he settles in easily.
"Hopefully our fans will take to him straight away and he will start scoring goals, which will help him settle in as well.
"Miguel does not speak English but football is a universal language. His biggest problems will come off the field but I am sure everything will come into place when he starts putting the ball in the back of the net. Istvan (Ferenczi) could not speak English when he arrived but by the time he left at the end of the season he was cracking jokes with the rest of the players.
"We have to treat the players in the right way. It is important that we go out of our way to make sure Miguel settles in well here".
Simon added: "We will not put a figure on it but we are looking to bring in more players to strengthen the squad and that will continue right up to the start of the season.
"We have identified players who we would like to bring to the club and we will make sure that we are more competitive as a squad next season. When we sign those players and everything is in place and confirmed then we will let everybody know".

So he DID go & watch him ... more humble pie for some? What amazed there was the comment that Ferenczi couldn't speak English when he arrived ... talk about a quick learner!!
Istvan "**** I missed"
and
"That was never a foul ref"
1st phrases in his book.

"Istvan couldn't speak English when he arrived..."
Thats funny, cos when he bagged agin Stoke at the Britanniain Februaryhe was chelping away like a good un.
Good spaykin teachers they have in Barnsley.

Surely if he's played at a higher altitude... ...he will have a higher endurance level than the average championship player due to his lungs now having an abundance of oxygen to play with? I'm no scientist but the African distance runners who train at a high altitude tend to do better in the longer distances? Plus he'll be good at West Brom (A) ...the ground at the highest altitude in the football league apparently?
Drat and double drat.... ...maybe if the club can arrange a house for him in Hoylandswaine? I'm loving the Peru flag though. Our colours too!
