Since the leage went to 24 teams in 1989

No side with 53 points has ever been relegated
and only twice has a side gone down with 52

in fact in over half the seasons our current total of 48 points would be enough but not this time.

Current ppg shows that the 3rd bottom side could have 54 points - think unless a couple of sides blow up we might need 55 points to be absolutely safe though I would hope 2 more wins to get us to 54 points really ought to be enough - could easily be a new highest ever total for a relegated side this season
