to get a knighthood in the Queens new years honours list so well done to him and well deserved too. Also knighthoods to David Brailsford and Ben Ainslie.
As much as I'm a huge huge fan of Wiggins and his achievements, I struggle with the fact that entertainers and sportsmen are made in to Knights of the Realm.
If we're going to have to defend our shores against some unforeseen evil and we have to send our knights up to battle then give me Sir Bradley Wiggins ahead of Sir Elton John any day of the week.
You're right, of course. But I do think Bradley Wiggins is an exceptional human being and I wouldn't begrudge any honour that is bestowed upon him. I'm sure he'd be embarrassed by what I've just said, which is all the more reason why he is so deserving. Occasionally people do very special things, I think Bradley is one of those people. There are others out there too, often unrecognised, but just because Bradley is recognised doesn't mean he's unworthy. He inspires people and I can't think of a greater accolade.

Couldn't agree more.
I'd rather see a Sir Bradley Wiggins and a Sir Steven Redgrave than a Sir Elton John or a Sir Cliff Richard anytime.
I have a lot of respect for (sir) Bradley Wiggins, even though I think the honours thingy is a load of sh!te, but I have much more respect for Danny Boyle who, as well as being a talented filmmaker and all round decent bloke, turned a knighthood down.
A friend of mine got an MBE Knew about it a few weeks ago but it's nice to see it confirmed. Well done Martin Cahill, MBE - you deserve it. http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2012-12-29/new-years-honours-in-northamptonshire/
