On several occasions just recently, I have attempted to reply to posts using the "reply to the original thread" button but for some reason my post is then positioned under others that have replied to the original thread (when looking at the hybrid view). This as caused confusion to others when reading my post. I assume the original thread to be the first post. What is going wrong? is it my lack of understanding? Any help will be appreciated.

I presume the others have replied to the original thread before you, so your post will be below theirs.

No that's not what I mean. When you look on hybrid view you can see who has replied to which post. When I reply to the original post I expect to see it linked to the original post and not one of the others, but for some reason when I do it, it seems to be linked to the last post I read even though I have replied to the original post. As an example, if you look at the post about the Yorkshire show, i replied to the original post but when viewed in hybrid you can see that it is linked to a Tomfun response.
