Correct. Sentences are Pathetic. I watched cops with camera last night. It tracked about 4 cases throughout the show. They were: A mugger of a mobile phone - Got a "caution". Growing cannabis - £100 fine. Possessing a series of deadly weapons - £500 fine - I think. People will take the risk if the penaties are so soft.
worst thing is they'll be out after 3 years as it's now a matter of policy that generally speaking offenders are released after half their sentence. And people wonder why crime goes up.
although i agree that this is far too lenient I don't think it has much impact on crime going up. I'm sure if the sentence was double they wouldn't have thought acutally I'm not going to do this
No but it sends a message to other would be thugs who fancy a bit of murrrder. If you see that the lad from the other estate is locked away for 20 years, then prison is seen not as a badge of honour, but as an actual waste of your life.
Unfortunately that would require rational thought which i think anyone who will happily kill some one because of their race is incapable of
Seven years ago, a guy in London got 8 years for attempting to rob an estate agency with a sawn off toy gun. If money is involved the sentence is always higher than crimes against the person.
I don't think prison is much of a deterrent but the best part about prison is that if someone is locked up they can't burgle your house, steal your car, assault their partners, or kick the crap out of people.
The judicial system does need a overhaul. Look at kipper jackson, love him or hate him, he gets 2 years for throwing a cream bun at a copper. He'll probably do the 2 years too. A year later this murdering scum will be out, along with Karen Matthews. Doesn't add up does it?
