I've had it for around 13 months now, and save a little blip around 3 months in, it's been spot on.

The blip I speak of was a noticeable degredation in speed. I called them up and asked them to investigate (admittedly around 8pm at night) and they sent an engineer the next day and all was resolved.

    Unlimited too.

A question on that - I've got Virgin Media, no issues really, but I wondered how I'd go about switching if I want to because my phone line is with VM. So if I want to switch to Sky I have to get a BT line back in don't I? And then I can't switch from BT for 12 months? That's how I understand it anyway.

    That is correct.

My Dad had both Sky for tv and VM for phone and broadband he recently moved everything to Sky and is saving near £20 a month for the same package

I have same set up that your dad had...so I'd need to switch to BT first for 12 months would I or can you go directly to Sky, if so how does it work with the phone line?

Left Talk Talk for Sky about 3 months ago. Talk Talk had frequent 'drop outs' that I spoke to them about periodically. Had same problem with sky and they resolved it FOC in 2 days; faulty phone line box.

I switched from Virgin Media some months ago (to Sky) never looked back. I don't have a contract with BT either. In my experience Virgin customer service was awful, inconsistent bills, underhand little things they used to do - like when I moved house they swapped me onto a brand new contract and and jacked up my prices without telling me.

Then months later they sent through a glossy letter telling me how they'd improved their service, the bills would go up slightly etc etc. Tiny small print advising I could leave the contract if I didn't accept the new terms.

When I phoned up they tried to tell me that I had three separate contracts for phone, tv and Internet and that they could release me from one and not the other two (phone). Shocking. They then asked me why I was leaving, and when I old them it was poor service they said the only reason I was legally entitled to cancel the contract was if I didn't accept the bills.

When we got through all that and they accepted that I had only one contract, and that I was entitled to cancel it they started trying to give me money off everything and bribe me to stay with discounted contracts.

I stuck to my guns and I've never looked back. Doesn't matter what Virgin Media offer I wouldn't go back.

Sky have been very good, reliable and consistent.

With Virgin Media I can see how the elderly and vulnerable could get ripped off. I recommend to anyone who does use them to take every opportunity to either get away or tell them you're going to sky so you can get an outrageous discount. Never pay them full price.

We've been with Sky and never had any trouble.

I had reservations at first because of the bad feedback they got from reviews but a friend who lived nearby said he had never had any trouble in our area and thought I would be ok.

    He's been proved right.

Our speed is approx 6-8MB, occasionally the xboxes will drop off the wi-fi but considering that we have 2 teenage boys who are on xbox live almost constantly, either gaming, streaming TV or using Skype with their mates, plus I'm on the laptop browisng this board I think it does well.

6-8mb is slow for nowadays. Virgin is expensive but fast and reliable in my opinion as you aren't using the phone line and the bt exchange, I pay nearly 50 quid a month but get 120 meg all the time. It pays for itself in games fr the Xbox and wii. Let alone films and music in minutes
