yes the devil that is sky tv etc.....

sky engineer said he'd knock me out a sky box and wire it in for £40 , all i need is a sky freesat card then for £25 . is this the best / cost effective way of getting tv in the kids bedroom?

the normal freeview tv signal is rubbish in my area btw

If your meaning to just get free view channels

I would just feed a coaxial cable down the stud wall into a earial socket or direct into tv/digibox and and lay aerial in loft. worked for us until we got multiroom

Just got myself a new laptop - HDMI cable from that into TV in the bedroom, and got all my Sky channels via Sky Go!

Didn't he just say he has a ***** freeview reception?

I've also got a Sky box with a freeview card in it in bedroom.

If you're wanting that for TV in the kids bedroom then what are you using for TV in the living room and/or your bedroom?

Freesat at £40+£25 is a good price so i'd go for that but i'd also be looking at how to utilise it for other rooms. Stick a quad LNB on your dish (pretty sure that it would come with one anyway) and you can have 2 boxes in two different rooms (obviously £25 a box for the cards) which could both record programmes and watch something else at the same time. Or you could even have 3 or 4 boxes on the one dish if you were happy not recording and watching on the same box at the same time.

Dunno about the new boxes but if you don't want the sky+ and recording stuff then you can just use an old box without a card. That's what we have in deepest Burgundy - a quad LNB on a dish I stuck up myself and then four old boxes I got cheap off ebay in four different rooms (as SuperTyke says, only without paying the £25 per box for the card).

Edit: Maybe you get extra stuff with the card, I'm not sure. But I think when we looked at it we couldn't work out what we'd be paying for as we seemed to have all the stuff we wanted.

Not sure exactly what but there are a few channels don't work wothout a card. I had it without one for a while before the message came up - I think Channel 5 and their associated channels don't work.

We have Channel 5, 5 USA, etc.

Edit: On one of the boxes I had to add it as an additional channel rather than it being available in the guide but for the others it's in the guide as usual. But Mrs Burgundy Red informs me that Pick TV is one that you don't get without a card (formerly Sky 3 IIRC).
