Having problems with my Sky system - lost about half the channels for last couple of nights, picture breaking up at the merest hint of rain.
Reckon theres water getting into the LNB, happened a couple of years ago and engineer put some sealant on or summat.
Anyone know a decent engineer I'll be able to ring tomorrow to come out Saturday morning?

p.s. In the Barnsley area of course!

You're not alone. I have a brand new dish and the same problems. The thunder heads have been very high this summer - a lot of rain and hail for a signal to pass through. Both neighbours are suffering too.

Still got half the channels out including all Sky Sports (but NASN is ok luckily for tonights Yankees game) and all the movie channels.

Could be more than just water in.

Anyway - got a guy coming tomorrow morning so hopefully get it sorted before the season kicks off.

Sounds like your block is not switching between the horizontal and vertical polarisation. Try this:

    Press [services] 401 [select]
    or your sky remote.

Then go to (1) LNB SETUP,SELECT.

Change LNB Power Supply to OFF, and 22KHZ Command to OFF.

    Save Settings.

Then Do the whole thing again, but turn them back ON.

    Save Settings.

    See if it works.

    You got that right?

Press services and try doing 401 it's in other menus i.e. it takes the 4 to go into system setup and then 01 to picture settings - i take it are talking about getting into an engineer menu

Yes, the engineers menu that holds block and tuning info. The software may have become corrupted so as to be not sending the 22Khz switching signal. Turning it off then on may fix it. It's a long shot, but it may work. I've fixed a dead LNB that way. Try it.

Cheers for that - managed to get into the menu and do as you mentioned, unfortunately it didn't work but thanks anyway.

Hopefully that engineer will get here soon, I want to see Sheff Utd get stuffed by Leicester at 12!

Could mean a new block then, may well be as you suspect. Waterlogged!

Is this block in the LNB or the decoder box?

LNB, stands for low noise block - it's the thing on the end of the sat dish. If you have normal Sky, then there are in fact 2 blocks in one, a horizontal and vertical one - they are switched by a 22 Khz tone. Sky Plus has four blocks switched in the same way. the fault could be in the LNB, or the Sky box itself.

    Cheers

I reckon it's probably in the LNB, started off with pictures breaking up with a bit of rain and now they are out completely.

Theres a website with a list of what channels on which transponders but I can't find it....been looking cause if I can find that would probably also indicate what the problem is.

    Amongst those out are
all the Sky Sports channels and Eurosport (NASN ok)
Most of the Sky movie channels (I think 7 and 9 ok plus Cinema), Film Four ok which is little use as I don't subscribe but the previews are on!
    Sky Mix
    Paramount
UK Gold +1, infact a lot of the +1 channels out
    Virtually all the documentary channels
Fox News (other news channels ok)

    He's just been

Connected something between line in and the box to test signal, a bit of messing about with this and the missing channels were back though there were occasionsl blips on the line. Reckons it's probably the box as it's an old box and will be £65 to repair. Not much point really as I was thinking of getting Sky+ anyway so may as well just get that ordered!
