Had a hands free telephone and decided to have a change. Bought a bog standard phone, plugged it in, it didn't work. Tried the old phone again to make sure it wasn't the connection - that worked a treat so decided that there was a fault with the new phone. Took it back and got a replacement. Plugged it in, it worked, or so we thought. It was fine until I was connected to the 'net! Pick up the phone receiver and I get cut off the 'net. Take the Sky filter off and hey presto the job's a good un.

What's confused me is, how come my old hands free phone worked in the sky filter, but neither of the two new bog standard phones would?
Am I missing something really obvious?
PS I've left the Sky telephone connection disconnected - am I going to have problems doing that?

How long you had Sky or a change in your Sky contract (e.g. upgrading to Sky+)? If it's over 12 months you'll be fine. Are the new phones digital phones? I've heard of problems - though no issues for me. Could try the Digital Spy forums if no one can answer question here.
Just over 12 months for Sky. Phone isn't digital.
It's done my head in I know that. So far it's cost us new batteries cos we thought the batteries for the first phone were duff & a 30 mile round trip to get the replacement.
Wouldn't be bad, but we hardly use the thing.

I've just got Sky in my flat in Doderth. You can now pay a one off fee of £25 to get out of the requirement to plug the Sky box into a phone line. Apparently people were complaining about invasion of privacy, Sky knowing what you were watching etc. Seems a bit steep to pay for being able to pull out a plug but there you go. The engineer said they periodically send a signal and expect a repsonse from your box via the phone line and if none received eventually you get a warning letter. If you pay the £25 they don't bother. By the way I wouldn't dream of using my Sky box here in Germany! However I'm sure it would work very well if I tried!
Yes you get a rather nasty letter. I swapped to Sky+ and took multiroom, both boxes have to be connected to same phone line, didn't have a problem and left them connected. However 6 months on I got a letter saying they weren't connected, so I checked and one was showing not connected although all cables in place. Unplugging phone line and resetting box did the trick however.
RE: Where's your flat ? nt One of them new ones down Jermyn Croft. Used to live on Strafford Walk before but sold up when we moved to Deutschland. We then used to stay with friends when we came over but it got more and more and eventually got too much. We then established the criteria that our new home in England had to be within 5 mins walk from an Indian, a pub, a sandwich shop, post office, chemist, chinese takeaway, cash machine, supermarket, barbers etc. Doderth it is then!
If you are using your box abroad (slap on wrist) for the free channels (BBC, ITV etc) and not the pay channels, you don't need a phone line. If you have the Sky pay channels you MAY have a problem if they decided to check your subscription by seeing if your phone is connected. But they mave millions of boxes so it could be ages before they actually do a check. That's my understanding anyway.
Used to have it in France , just brought it back with me , never connected it to the phone over here.
RE: I've emailed you as requested Got it mate looking forward to the conversation with Sarah behind the bar! We will be in the pub from 8 next Friday - may go to the Dil Raj first. Shall I wear a pink carnation?
That's Sarah! She's the landlords daughter and is planted there to get the attendances up. No on 2nd thoughts she's in your avatar.
Dont believe it mate. I thought, like you, that they would never check when I pulled the plug out. after all it is a liberty, to expect you to give them access. I am sure it could be challenged as 'an infringement of liberties' But they were onto me like a flash threatened to 'cut me off' in my prime, bastwards, when we eventually put the plug in they sent me a £25 M&S voucher for hassling me.
