16 year old signs her first pro contract and the abuse she received about her looks got that bad her club Kilmarnock have had to remove the post announcing it. Apparently all from men making horrible remarks about her having acne. The mind boggles what do these people really gain from such an action, having 3 daughters I can’t imagine what her parents must be going through let alone the lass herself. About time this sort of abuse is taken seriously and society sorts itself out but I’m not hopeful. Hopefully it doesn’t affect her too much and she goes on to enjoy her career despite these idiots.
Poor girl. She has some courage putting herself up to take a photo in the first place, its rare you see kids her age online without being caked in make up and a tonne of filters - I hate it. But there's little wonder why they feel pressured into it when they receive abuse like that. Bless her, hope she can shrug all the hate off and it doesn't knock her confidence. My sisters have all had acne, nowhere near as prominent as hers, and they all struggle dealing with, its heartbreaking to see the effect it has on them, so I can only imagine the upset the family is feeling. Hopefully she has a smashing career, gets plenty of game time and make a pissload of money doing it
Bloody evil ba**ards...social media can be the modern equivalent of the old fashioned poisoned pen letter. I remember Frankie Boyle making jokes about Rebecca Adlington's looks when she was a teenager a few years back, if I'd have been her Dad I'd have gone round to see him.
Twitter is absolutely minging. I tend to scroll on it for Barnsley news or reactions to talking points - Semenyo getting racially abused last night for example. But the whole platform is what is wrong with social media. The right hand side have a massive influence on it at the moment, doom mongering all sorts of nonsense and if it isn’t that, it’s some young naive woman flashing their tits or that idiot Geordie in Ibiza. Wish there would be a platform where Barnsley would use more than X because it’s the only news I get from the club.
I do think twitter has got a little worse in recent years, but its always been a vile place. Its not just the right either, some of the stuff I've seen from all sides are truly disgusting. I do see a lot of 'religious' people on it, usually Christian nationalists and younger Muslim men, those 2 sections are by far and away the worst from what I've seen mate. Such a shame too cos what a fantastic tool social media can be.
To think I opened this post expecting a beer recommendation, this has been a thoroughly depressing experience.
I was always brought up to believe that you should never try & take the piss out of anything that someone can’t help. Really poor from those involved
