Just listned to Kieth Hill on BBC site. I can see why we all feel as if we should like the guy. He is honest and works hard. He comes across very well at interview and always seems to believe in himself and his management abilities. He usually blames outside interferences like the crowd or something for bad performances which keeps the preasure off the players. But this time he said he was embarrassed and didnt know the answer. If my boss said that to me I would be worried! Why dosn't he know? If he dosn't know why is he telling me what to do. Ive got less respect for this guy. The next thing he will do is start to blame the players. His players. Then its too late. You have lost their respect. You lose the board. You lose your job.
This is the now or never time for Kieth Hill and his future at this club. He needs to prove how good he is or accept the limits to his mangerial skills.
Then its up to the board. They have to do the same. Either prove you're a good football managerial board or accept your limitations and either get someone in to help or move on.
I know we are only a small club by championship standards but that doesn't mean we can't attract championship managers and championship players. We might not pay the best wages. But we do pay wages and we are in the championship. Why do we always assume great players and managers wont come here? Let me tell you they will. We may not be their ideal and we might not pay the best wages but they would rather be managing or playing in the championship than lower leagues or not at all.
Lets stop thinking of ourselves as the poor relation who can only attract cheaper managers and players and lets stop looking for little gems that we can polish up and sell. Lets get a board, a manager, players and fans who are proud to be part of a club. And lets kick some ass.

I really like your enthusiasm, and belief, but I do think you are being a bit naive.

Yes, managers would prefer to manage in the Championship, but they also look at the prospects at the club they are going for. We are not an attractive proposition at the moment, due to financial restrictions. Why has Dave Jones gone to the fowls? Because they are in a good position in the League, he has money to spend on loans, and later on transfers, and I would bet he is on a bigger wedge than Hill is here.

Probably not as clear cut with players, but a championship player will want championship wages. Players coming up from League 1 or 2 (depending on the club), will take a wage that is greater than what they were getting, but not a championship wage. I have no doubt that some clubs in League 1 are paying their players more than many of ours. They have the resources to do so, something we do not have.

I hope I am wrong, and, providing we stay up (please!), we can attract good championship quality. Unfortunately, I can see players leaving in the summer who we cannot afford to lose.

Why am I naive? I knew some one would quote Dave Jones. But my point is how many other championship managers are there out there wanting to pit there wits again in the championship. Wanting to prove that they are still good enough to put together sides stong enough to compete and win things in this league. I agree, in fact I said that we would not be their ideal choice but I can't believe they would not generally want to manage or play as high as possible. If its with an underdog the success is even more highly prized.

I imagine Charlton must be paying Danny Haynes a decent wage.

At least Charlton, Huddersfield and both Sheffield sides will have bigger wage budgets than ours this season.

The question you may choose to ask is would a player prefer more money to play in League One or less money to play in the Championship.

people need to realise this is Kh's first season at this level; judge him after 3. It may be we go down before then I know but there certainly isn't anyone better waiting to com in so lets give our manager some proper time for a change.

Money talks both in the renumeration for the manager, and the resources he has at his disposal. More money, more (better?) players.

Would a championship manager, seeing a club with few resources and struggling, prefer that club, to one in a lower division, doing well, with a backer who will throw money at it? I'm not saying someone would prefer League 2 to Championship, but I'd say if it was a choice between us and fowls, at this moment in time, he'd go for the fowls.

A relegation never looks good on a manager's cv.

The main troble with that is, Hill came out and told everyone that he was a great manager, remember that? He didnt wait to see how he fared in this league, he came out and bragged about how good he was, that was his first mistake and he then began to believe his own hype. He slated fans off for not believing that we had no money, for been un reasonable in remembering our past, for booing **** performances, for even being too enthusiastic and cheering the players on when we lost a game!!
Whether he is good enough remains to be seen, but he made a rod for his own back and then blamed everything esle when things started to go wrong. He has to improve his overall outlook and his own perpective about the fans here because they will be here a long time after he has gone whether he goes upwards of downwards!!

Of course money talks but your missing the point. The point is that even though Wednesday,SUFC,Huddersfield, etc. have bigger crowds, budgets, grounds, etc. They are not playing in the championship and they can only have one manager each. You are not trying to tell me that there are no proven championship managers available who would be interested in this club. And as for giving a rookie manager three years to find his feet. Thats ok unless he takes you down. It will be alot harder to find a championship manager to take us on in league one trust me.
