Two oldish blokes sit a few rows front of us that my mate has aptly nicknamed "Drax and Ferrybridge C". One smokes a pipe the other a cigar and its like they take it in turns as to not give us any respite.

Will be nice to be smokeless next season especially for the young lass who has to sit in the middle of them every week.

Glad to hear it, such a difference it's made up here you won't believe how good it actually is until you experience it. It makes you appreciate it a lot more when you end up in a bar that allows smoking.

 

None Smoker But........

what are the smokers expected to do for a couple of hours? There's bound to be chain smokers clogging the bogs with *** ends pretending to have a crap. Are the club going to make a none smoking area outside the ground? It would be a good compromise to section off an area and to have one gate open for smokers to pop in and out for one. I'm sure the guy beside me would appreciate it, amongst others.

And how would a "smoking area outside the ground" work? Are you going to have people readmitted to the ground. Stewards checking people coming back in etc.

For many it would be hard enough going without a *** without the stress of watching the team they love. They could have a main gate open just one in each stand. Outside where the turnstyles are they could use cones to section off a small area and have a couple of stewards patrolling it. They could even limit the amount in one go that could go out, thus eliminating the risk of as many problems.

Problems with readmitting people to the ground - how do they check people coming back in? What's to stop someone coming in who wasn't in the ground to start with?

Are people going to want to be going out during the game? In which case - why bother going in the first place.

Went to Old Trafford in Apr for the Roma game.

Went to the toilet at half time. It was choking in there.

A ban on smoking in the work place - so how does having employees patrolling a smoking area work?

Not difficult to have a couple of stewards patrolling a gate and checking tickets on re-entry into the ground. No different really to what people do at night clubs when they show the stamp on their hand to show they have already paid. Just thinking of a way so smokers can still smoke as i'm afraid there will be many fans who will simply stop coming now because of the ban.

So how do you prevent somebody taking another ticket out and getting someone else in?

You can't have the stewards in the smoking area because that contravenes the law on smoking in the workplace.

 

How do you think they managed working down the pit?

My dad is a 20 a day man - he managed a shift down the pit without smoking!

 

The smoking ban

Could see the re-emergence of snuff & chewing tobacco. As I understand it, that's how they coped with their nicotine addictions down the pit.

They won't even let you have the top on your bottle of pop if you buy it at the ground due to Health & Safety. Do you really think they're going to allow someone in with a pair of 6 shooters?
