How many albums have they done? Half a dozen at most I would wager.

Why do they need to bring a Greatest Hits album out?

Often, artists and bands do it to finish an album deal and renegotiate better terms for new material. If Snow Patrol has a 4 album deal, have released 3 and wanted to finish their contract, they do a best of. Quick and dirty and the contract is fulfilled.

Not sure in this case. Also, if they have been relatively successful, it earns them a good return for doing nothing.

Not that I care for Snow Patrol

But according to Wikipedia they've released over 20 singles and a handful of EPs. That's plenty of material for a greatest hits album isn't it?

I would guess that all their singles have been taking from previous albums so if someone is into them, chances are they will have those songs anyway.

Are there noteworthy artists that HAVEN'T brought out a greatest hits album?

Ones that have been around for a while, that is!

Yeah, can't find anything on Google

I wondered if anyone had made a moral stance so to speak.

    Even Billy Bragg has

And he was always sloganeering with 'Capitalism is killing Music'. So if he has....

I would bet that there are some smaller independent label bands that have took such a moral stance, but as very few people care about such bands anyway it will have hardly made a ripple.

Metallica have brought out live albums which I will always buy - I suppose these are their nearest equivalent to a Greatest Hits album
