Aye. But it's 17 players. All of which know each other. As apposed to the last god knows how many years we have had to almost replace an entire squad.

We need to get to progressive changes. Tweeking here and there. Rather than wholesale changes each year.

If we could only stop with the avalanche of loan players.

Take the point on inexpeirence but having 17 players, all of which should be in contention for a starting place, before the summer recruitment begins is plentiful. I'd only be looking to add four or five quality players on top of that lot. A bloated squad is pointless and a hinderance at this level.

I reckon we are 5 players off a competetive squad to start a season. Plus strengthen at Christmas and maybe 1-2 loanees.

Hopefully get Nyatanga and maybe Ramage signed up, then try and sign Waring and Pearson (probably no chance).

Get a new quality CB in and a full back tp cpver the youths.. Couple of wingers in and a striker. Sorted.

We only have any kind of experience, quality and cover in two positions: goalkeeper (if Turnbull can regain his fitness) and central midfield, where we have plenty of decent options. Other than that it's an academy squad.

Bree, Holgate and Smith all have bags of potential, maybe Cowgill and Williams do too, dunno as I've not seen enough of them, but to start the season without significant investment in the defence would be suicide. Maybe that will come by re-signing the players already here (Ramage, Nyatanga and Cranie) but they may not be interested in the wages we could offer, or Johnson might not rate them.

We've got one forward really - Winnall. Not sure what Lalkovic's best position is, while Phenix was always a gamble, even more so now that his illness has flared up again, which may prevent him from ever getting the chance.

We've no wide players. Well, we've got Jennings, but we already know how that will play out. He'll be even bigger than this year and get sent off in the first game of the season.

At times this season we struggled to put a team out due to the size of the squad. There's a good chance we're going to lose the remainder of the players on Championship wages other than Jennings, plus release the players we only offered one year deals as they were the gambles. We need a player for every single position on the pitch other than the goalkeeper and the 2/3 central midfield positions depending on the formation Johnson wants to play. That's 8 new players and it still leaves us with no cover at all in some positions.

We will need to recruit between 8 to 10 players if we are not going to rely on loanees. We will have 1 striker so two more are needed. No experience at the back in any position (or cover). No wingers.

It was always going to be a hard job given that last year we started from scratch and even if a relatively high percentage of Wilson's signings show promise there were always going to be failures given the intensity of recruitment.

Would be great if we could retain Cranie, Nyatanga and Waring. I also think we'll sign Ibehre.

That's means we probably have enough cover at GK, CB, CM, ST. We definitely need a new left back. Depending on how good Williams is we may also need a new right back. We're desperate for new wingers.

I hope we add quality rather than quantity. I'd rather bring in 4/5 players on good wages who are better than we already have than fill the squad out with average players when our academy lads are more than capable of filling in if needed.

It's depressing pal, 3 teams in this league play attacking passing power and pace football from what I've seen and they're in top 4 rest are all defensive teams trying to nick a win. We're going to set up with defenders all over the pitch next season, it doesn't excite me one bit so I couldn't give a fu'ck who we sign, I'll just turn up in August to have a sing song and a social with mi mates.

Blimey, we're only in April. Of the out of contract players, I don't know which of them them i) will want to re sign, ii) Johnson wants at the club, iii) who we can afford as a Division 1 club. Or how many of the under contract players Johnson sees as having a future at the club under him & be looking to move on. It's not something I'm too worried about, personally. The number of new players required for next season's squad will differ from one fan to the next. Some will look to around five or six, others to upwards of a dozen. Whoever we sign, I think it's highly doubtful any of them will be met with universal approval, some will be written off before they've even pulled on the shirt.

I think Waring will be sold to a Championship side as he's done alright with us and Pearson will be loaned to a Championship club to continue his development towards the Manchester United first team that he's highly rated for.

I'd be shocked if we saw either of them play for us again after this season.
