It only applies to Visa credit cards, so debit cards will still be accepted, at least.

Reason is because they are based in Luxembourg Visa are treating UK credit cards as foreign transactions so the Europe cap on transaction fees no longer applies - its actually Brexit to blame - though not one of the issues I am too concerned about. If I can believe the press (haha) their fees have gone up from 0.3% to 1.5% poor things.

I am sure this is just posturing to get their fees reduced though neither Visa nor Amazon want to be in a position where the cards are not accepted
Im certainly not getting a Mastercard just so I can shop on Amazon

They are my retailler of last resort anyway - if I can buy things elsewhere even if they cost a bit more I do. Its only really Audible and Kindle I use them for

I thought AMEX always charged retailers much more than Visa and Mastercard, which is why many places won’t accept them.

I think they do. Was always my understanding but then if you're a small independent business you get to be part of the 'shop small' initiative at least once a year. Noticed when I was in the US last week that it's much bigger over there as a campaign than over here.

It turns out that this only applies to UK issued VISA credit cards EU issued cards are ok apparently. Hmmm, I wonder why that is?

Oh wait a minute, we no longer come under the EU cap on credit card charges, VISA have clearly taken the opportunity to raise their charges for us, another benefit of the B word.....

Surprised they haven't yet started their own bank and had a two price tier where everything is cheaper if you pay with your Amazon bank account to make it even cheaper for them on fees.

It'll happen. Bezos intentions are clear in his original name for Amazon. He dropped it when friends pointed out it was a bit creepy.

I had an email a while ago from Natwest saying my visa card was being changed to a mastercard, maybe this has something to do with it.

See my earlier post about EU credit card charge cap.... Only a matter of time before Mastercard do the same.

The longer we go down this rabbit hole the more u can’t help but see parallels with E-Corp in Mr Robot. It’s a very prescient series - available on….Amazon!
