Steele Dibble Davies Kennedy Cranie Mvoto Nyatanga Jennings Digby Noble-Lazarus O'Grady Rose Abbott Nana Maris Oates (McKnight ?? / Mellis ?? ) Lets just call it a bit thin on the ground experience wise unless I have missed anyone... Club needs to get some additional revenue from somewhere to increase the wage budget, however where from ??
What a pathetic reply... Did I mention any panic or complain about anything?? My concern is the wage restrictions, according to Wilson we are sailing close to the limit already so bringing that experience / quality in will be difficult. So ya can keep your ffs..
Said McKnight was to be offered a 6mth deal. Also George Smith and James Bree and not sure if Cowgill is on a pro contract or if he just got a taster being a sub for the QPR game. No comment from either side with Mellis yet either. If O'Brien, Cywka and Dawson have rejected deals and they are dead in the water, that money would probably spread to 3-5 (maybe more?) new signings. And if a big earner goes, that would really free up funds. Hopefully as July commences more will start to happen.
If it means we bring in the players who the manager wants, as opposed to bringing in ones simply for the sake of it (even worse, adopting a scatter gun approach), then I think our stance is the correct one. There'll be frustration at times if/when we miss out on any of our targets, but we move on to the next name. I can only speak for myself, but I'm neither worried, nor panicking, at the present lack of incoming transfer activity, as I have absolutely no idea what's going on behind the scenes. For all I know, we may have half a dozen new players lined up to sign in the next couple of weeks once they've returned from holiday (for example).
And judging by how hit and miss many of our signings have been over the past few years I'm more interested in the players we are devloping through the academy. If we can continue to develop decent players this way it will be far cheaper than signing new players. It also enables us to spend several years working with them before they are thrown into the first team. The facilities we have and the coaches we have at the academy all have good reputations, so hopefully we can build on that. We might then get to the stage that we're almost at now, whereby youngsters will come to Barnsley over top Premiership clubs because they know they are likely to experience first team football as soon as they are ready, rather than being shipped out on loan and stuck in the reserves like what happens to 99% of Premiership youngsters. James Bree is a good example that this may already be starting to happen.
Re: I agree, mate Looks a decent squad already to me. Exciting. And obviously to be added to with I would suggest at least a handful of new recruits. I'd have liked to have kept JOB and Bobby, and would like COG to stay, but I certainly think we're better set than some do to attack a season in L1. Check out the squads of a lot of the clubs in our division. They're ****.
Re: I agree, mate I suspect it will change a fair bit before we kick off (departures and signings), but i'm with you. I think its a great opportunity for some youth to come through, play and learn. I do fear we'll ship a fair few goals still though
Re: I agree, mate Most of our targets are still playing in the world cup, that's why we can't sign them yet,It will take a bit longer to sign the one's who will be playing in the final though. So I'm not panicking yet.
