Only this time "Cloughie" has not gone on to bigger things (Leeds :D)

At the start of last season I compared the arrival of Hill and Flitcroft to the arrival of Clough and Taylor at Derby all those years ago. They had done the impossible at Hartlepool and then moved up to a struggling second division club (Derby County). They revolutionised that club and the rest is in the history books.

I saw Hill and Flitcroft's achievements at Rochdale as being in a similar vein and hoped that they could do the same at Oakwell. It didn't happen unfortunately and now we are left with the number two stepping up.

I was there yesterday and saw the passion on the pitch. On that basis you cannot blame the board for appointing Flicker (significantly there is no mention of a length of contract). End of season maybe, then see where we are? But I wonder if it would have been the same had we been playing, for example, Charlton or Crystal Palace yesterday? It was like an old fashioned FA Cup tie yesterday with a big (ish) crowd and lots of urgency on the pitch. Had it been a poorly supported southern club I think we may have seen a different game and Flicker might not be now in the position he is in.

Just a thought - not criticising the decision in any way. I hope he does well. I hope we win 6 or 7 out of the next 10 and crawl our way to safety. I think we might - they're too good to go down aren't they :)

Or Viv Anderson has gone and Danny Wilson has taken over - that worked out ok, didn't it?

    Good luck Flicker

Just going to say the same thing - internal appointments sometime work - sometimes they don't . For every Norman hunter or danny wilson there's a Simon davey

No I dont but you cant say he was a complete failure - not in his first season and a half Kept us up first season
Kept us up and got us to Wembley second season
    - then he ran out of steam

I dont mind Flicker failing by only keeping us up this season

We have had more sucesses than failures promoting from within
    Hunter - sucess
    Wilson - sucess
    Ritchie - sucess

even Bodges managed to keep us up (just)

How many failures have we had from within

Our biggest failures in recent times are Spackman Parkin Hart and Hill - all brought in from outside
