-----------------Butland Wiseman--Craine--Ramage--Kennedy ------------------Perkins------------------ Etuhu------------Mellis-----------Cywka ------------------McCourt---------------- ------------------Tudgay---------------- Was it something similar to that? Sounds like Etuhu played a wider role than usual.
Whatever it was, it was an attacking side, with attacking players. According to player, Mellis was playing a deeper role in the first half, where he seemed to see a lot of the ball. Radio Sheffield said the link up play between the midfield triangle of Mellis McCourt and Perkins was good to watch and was certainly working. Mellis was pushes further forward in the 2nd half and we doubled our lead. That's what I like to see.
It didn't sound like we started defending on our goal line once we went two up either, even when they got one back it didn't sound like we were going to start sitting dangerously deep.
Having been there it was a fairly fluid formation. Great for counter attacking A nice balanced team that passed and moved. First goal gave us confidence and players played in correct position thrived and grew in stature. As expected after they scored Brighton pressed us more bit we didn't completely disappear into a defensive shell we still tried to maintain an 'out' ball rather than a hoof.
Sounds promising. The front 6 players are of proven Championship quality. I think having Perkins in that role will allow us to see the best of him again, breaking up play and laying it off to the THREE playmakers around him, rather than the 1 and in some games none he's been having to cope with this season. Etuhu also gives us a great stability in there if he hits the form of last season. In Ramage, Craine and Butland we have the makings of a top 6 Championship defence, hopefully there ability will bring out the best in our fullbacks. Upfront in Tudgay we have a player who's touch is second to none, he's the perfect player for the likes of McCourt and Mellis as his train of thought when attacking is right up there with Paddy and Mellis. The only worry is his goal record however if he chips in with assists like he did last night its just as valuable as his goals.
