The main route to the airport, the Southern Cross Drive, for those that have been over. I was in the middle lane and tootling along. I noticed them, first, in my mirror. A big mob of bikers. They were going faster than the traffic and so they were weaving all through the lanes. There was five hundred of them (it was on the news) all on Harleys. They all had on the leathers with their colours. 'The Rebels'. And like the other gangs they are known to control some of the heroin trade and have the odd gun-battle with their rivals. It was a awesome, it was intimidating, it was a bit scary. Very impressive, though, a kilometre's worth of roaring Harleys weaving all around me in me white van. I was thinking that it was a time to keep your head down and just be steady. One of them was just a yard away next to my window and he looked up at me and signalled with his foot that he was coming in front of me. It was new to me that, I saw a few of them do it. They signalled to their mates with a kick of the leg and then set off in that direction. When he made that signal, I thought okay, brake a bit let him in, whatever he wants. So I braked. Then I felt the impact knock me forward. I looked in the mirror and there was a biker flying through the air after he had ran up my arse. I dismissed the urge to keep driving and pulled over a couple of hundred yards up the highway and walked back. To say that I was bricking it is an understatement. There were about ten of them when I had walked back to them and this big ginger-bearded bloke stepped out of the group and up to me. He was trembling, as you might expect after he had flown through the air on a highway at 80kph. He said, "Is that your van?" I nodded and he said, "Is it alright?" and I said, "**** the van, are you alright?" and he said, "Yeah. I had no-where to go". and he stepped up to me and gave me a big hug. Jaysus, wasn't I surprised and relieved. I told him again how sorry I was and he said he had seen his mate cut me off. It is funny how we connected (ha). I wished him all the best and I drove off. there, I feel better now...
i would not have been surprised to wake up in a hedge somewhere all battered and bruised after doing that!
