I guess it must be if we've signed Steele.

I thought most European contracts were due to expire on 30th June, with the transfer window opening on 1st July for 2 months?

Well, thats according to FM anyway. So there.

still not allowed to sign players outside the transfer window though

I am led to believe that if a player was registered to a club during the time since the last transfer window then he cannot sign for another until the next window regardless of whether his contract ends or is cancelled during the period where the window is closed.

If he's a free agent then the transfer window doesn't apply.

    It does

If he was under contract at the end of the last transfer window.

It does, or at least used to

He wasn't a free agent during the period where the transfer window was closed. If he had been a free agent since christmas then we could sign him, he was at west brom though so we couldn't.

If what you are proposing was the case then west brom would have released him and we would have signed him month's ago. In fact, the likes of manchester united etc would be buying players all the time by getting club's to release players and then selling them their own young players that will never make it for 20 million when the window opens.

    RE: It does

"...a professional whose contract has expired prior to the end of a registration period may be registered outside that registration period."

"An established professional who has, in the course of the season, appeared in fewer than ten per cent of the official matches in which his club has been involved may terminate his contract prematurely on the ground of sporting just cause... A professional may only terminate his contract on this basis in the 15 days following the last official match of the season of the club with which he is registered."

Actually I'll save you the bother, I misread that.

I'm sure this has happened before though.

Yep, just noticed that. I'm sure that this has happened before.

Has he not just signed a pre-contract?
