Its a no go area for Managers. In todays Chronicle Patrick Cryne said he had a poor response after Ritchie left and the the applicants were poor. That was two years ago I wander if Patrick has made recent enquiries of available Managers ? or is the lack of talent out there based on distant history. I find it difficult to understand why prospective Managers that are currently unemployed would prefer to remain out of work rather than come to BFC. I can think of at least 3 that are currently out of work that are good Managers perhaps if the occasion had to arise we should approach them.
go on then, Name yer three. just out of interest, I will not mock or deride your views. Just interested.
RE: go on then, Name yer three. Billy Davies, Sam Alerdyce, Holloway, Cotterill, Peter Reid, there are more I am sure that would make good Managers
To be fair to Cryne
What he's saying is that nobody good applied to manage us at that particular time. Remember:
1. We were in our first season back in the Championship after we'd just sacked the manager who got us there, withwidespread derisionamongst football community
2. We looked odds on to go straight back down and argueably our best player was leaving (McIndoe)
3. We'd not long been out of Admin and it was well know our chairmen was playing it "safety first" with the old purse strings
I'd like to think now we're established, have good players (and spending £1m+ on those players), after THAT cup run, that we may get someone decent applying.
Like Danny Wilson (joking)

RE: go on then, Name yer three. never been keen on Cotterill and Holloway, the others are a fair shout. Not sure if Allardyce or Reid would come to us though.
The last couple of paragraphs make him a legend. Reds (fans apparantly) banging on his roof and smearing his car with waste food. He said "It was either quit then or commit to a strategy to unite everyone, l chose the latter" Love to know who those knobhead fans were.
Can't understand why Safe as houses the Barnsley mangers job:
a) Bad start to the season - October and people want you sacked
b) Get the team promoted and struggle in the division above - you're sacked
c) Team are pootling along in mid-table - only 3 defeats away from being sacked
I think when we sacked Ritchie people were looking at us thinking, the poor blighter only just got them promoted and he's out the door. Why would I want that job?
This time they'd be thinking, poor blighter kept them up on a shoe string and managed a decent cup run. Why would I want that job?

How the mighty fall ... Sam Alardyce
The bloke takes a year out, and goes from being a candiadate for the England job to Barsnley target. I love the club, but ... I wouldn't wish that type of fall from grace on anyone.
Alardyce was a successful Premiership manager, who was daft enough to think Newcastle was a good idea. I doubt he'd even pick up the phone to say NO to us.
