Anyone at the last few games care to elaborate on what effect they think changing formation has had?

3 bodies marking two forwards, 5 at back means an extra body for defending.

Can't say why, just does. Don't underestimate return of Cranie, outstanding today as was Kennedy. Not had these two in for a while and they flourish in this line up.

Surprise for me was how McNulty dominated Becchio, one the leagues top marksman kept quiet all day

We're no longer obsessed with passing it between the back four for 3/4 of the match. Definite change of style than under Hill. You have to wonder if Flickers been told what we don't want to watch or whether Hill was so stubborn he didn't even listen to his assistant.

On today's performance, Flicker got the team playing the 'Barnsley' way and if he can recreate that on a regular occasion then he'll do for me.

Higher Tempo, Advancing quicker up field even McNulty looked to play the ball forward at each opportunity, Goldbourne still learning and 2 forwards linking well together.

Its about the players now and not the manager. Ego has left the building.

It's not so much the formation, it's the fact that the defenders release the ball much earlier and play it longer. Consequently the majority of the play is in the opposition's half rather than our own. When we've got the ball we attack, when we haven't our midfielder's push up and apply pressure in the opponent's half. We've stopped playing tippy tappy football for possession stats and pass completion and started playing football for goals.

Play like this and we have a chance.need to be tighten up at set pieces and tbf flicker hadn't been exposed to this threat in the last three games but I'm sure he's on the ball with it.

the huge difference for me. and i mean galactic. was the absence of 'square and back' tippy tappy rubbish. not a trace of it. we picked the ball up, we moved it FORWARD. we won the ball in midfield, we moved it FORWARD.

Forgot to say attacking and being in there face takes the pressure off our defence, which will still be found to be wanting when put under constant pressure and not the occasional sortie from the opponents.

    1) More positive approach.
    2) Going to wingbacks has strengthened our defence as we look to get forward more.
    3) Kennedy brought in after months in the wilderness under Keef has seemingly found a place at centre half.

It has been so pleasing to see how we played against the dirty loiners, much quicker, more direct and everyone put a shift in.

Today I saw a team that, ceteris paribus, will not get relegated.

Warnock got it wrong today. He had seen that we were playing a back three and wing backs and decided that the answer was to play a forward against each defender. We were brave and resisted the temptation to drop the wing backs into a defensive formation because our back three were easily winning their individual battles. This allowed the wing backs to stay further forward in a midfield formation, giving us 5 v 3 sometimes in that area of the field. Warnock changed the formation at half time, dropping Barclay (Leeds best player in my opinion) back into that area to help out, and because of this and the fact that all the pressing high up the field had tired the Barnsley players, there was less snap,

In spite of our first half dominance, lack of goals looked like it might cost us again (we hit the same post twice). In the end, games are decided in both boxes. Whilst Leeds did not have a single shot on target or a single corner, which shows how we dominated the game, you still need someone to score when the chance arrives. Dagnall took his penalty and his goal very well, and we can only hope that now he has broken his long non-scoring spell, he goes on to score many more goals. We will need someone to. In the end, Barnsley were very tired. They had left everything on the field and it says loads about their desire to get Flitcroft the job.

Tempo, purpose, solidity, doing our passing in the right areas, more direct, not expecting our CB's to have a load of possession. I could think of more.

I sat in the west stand at the side of the dugout for the burnley game and mickey mellon was constantly on at mcnulty and golborne, telling them to get the ball forward and to stop pi55ing abart playing it across the back.Today I was back in my normal ponty end seat but kept an eye out for mickey mellon and he looked to be carrying on in the same style. For me Mellon is as instrumental in our change of form as is flicker

We have some width, the central midfielders can move the ball as they have options, we move the opposition around rather than them sitting in waiting for us. We are also not concentrating our attacks down the congested middle of the field, width creates extra space for Harewood and Dagnall to work in, and there is more space to get a shot away
